I know of one other person on this board who has an IB. N8dogg has the exact same IB I do.
So, to those that have IBs... how long did it take you to adjust to the sound?
It took me a couple of months. But now that I am used to it, there is no way I'm going to use anything other than an IB in my HT room. The bass is just so quick and powerful... but clean.

I love my IB but I wish I had a sealed room, It would have been more than enough in a sealed room but in my basement, I needed the extra 2 x 18's and the 2 x 21's to get my desired sound level as it's all open to the rest of it.

TECHNICALLY every sealed subwoofer is IB. But the term has come to mean large architectural installations that use a part of your home to create a very large enclosure. My hand is up for using one for HT (and for also having stereo OB, or open baffle subs for music.)

But what does IB stand for David?
OB = Open Baffle.
But, IB = Inclosed Baffle*?
* But why not EB? ...Enclosed Baffle. ...Or SE for Sealed Enclosure?

Thanks for clearing that up. I thought it was slang for "I think therefore IB."

IB stands for Infinite Baffle, which means the rear wave of the driver cannot interact with the front wave, effectively making the baffle size infinitely large. It has nothing to do with the size of the ENCLOSURE, it has to do with the effective size of the front baffle.

Yeah, I've got an area 22x17 that I'm using for my HT, so the size is about right for a 4x18' IB. I'm planning on using two manifolds for my next IB, as I used a line array for this one. The manifolds look much easier to build.

Yeah, see that beats the pants off of my build. It took me two days to reinforce the wall. I used 2 layers of osb and sheetrock (on both sides) with wood screws and glue. That wall is going nowhere! lol

That wall is going nowhere! lol I did that the first time but after I threw 4 drivers in there, we couldn't brace it enough to not vibrate the entire house really bad lol. You could watch the wall flex upstairs! it was pretty crazy. We then took it all down and I did the manifold and put rubber gaskets around it. In my case I had to do it. Turned out pretty good but my room was so long and weird that where I ended up sitting, was kind of a dead spot. When IU had my TV down there it was perfect but when I put the projector down there, I had to move back 3-4 feet and that made a world of difference for the worse lol.

I've been thinking about going with an IB using 4 of the 21's, but I'm currently learning towards going with 8 Ficar 18's in 2 manifolds. Seems like that would probably be a better move.
