Forgive the blasphemy, but I am growing somewhat impatient for the launch of the new Reference Series. If EMO's new reference line will incorporate "Ribbon Tweeters" as projected by the advent of the Airmotiv line and the previous teaser comments from the last Emofest, have any of our gentle readers had the opportunity to evaluate the new GoldenEar upstarts? My Mirage OM-9's have proven adequate over the last few years, but the upgrade bug is nibbling and the wife is agreeable to my current whims. The absolutely glowing reviews of the Triton's in The Absolute Sound are intriguing despite the DefTech/ Sandy Gross similarities and the nagging question of excessive advertising and effusive praise conundrum. Can anyone share an equitable viewpoint yea or nay? The ERT 8.3's on sale are exceptionally tempting despite my lack of opportunity to personally review them! Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas! ;D

If this were all Emotiva all the time, then people would realize we are all avatars created by the staff :-) Anyway, I don't have Emotiva speakers, but that is not a choice against Emotiva, it is a choice to keep the speakers I already had, and enjoy their USP-1 and XPA-2. Anyway, my favorite place carries them, and even though I haven't been there in a while and heard them, just the fact that they endorse the Golden Ear carries some weight with me. See thestereoshop.com/goldenEar.htmlAnother choice of course is see what Stereophile says about them.

When I heard them in Chicago I was very impressed. If I put together a second theater upstairs they will be at or near the top of my list.

I've heard them and have a similar sound as Def Techs. I'm not a fan of that sound so I would say that I disliked them. But that's a personal choice. If you're a fan of the Def Tech sound then these are great speakers.

Enjoyed several hours at my local B&M dealership today. After reading several glowing reviews of the Triton 2's and factoring in the $2500 price point, I eagerly envisioned myself returning home with a pair of large boxes lovingly protecting my new acquisitions. After auditioning an exceptional pair of Vandersteens, some rather clinical Revel monitors, the Paradigm stdio 60 and 100's and finally the Triton 2's I was left with the impression that I'm not very impressed with the quality of many new/ old recordings. The associated equipment ranged from pricey Ayre separates to newer Anthem and some Integra products. Ultimately, the Paradigm 100's were once again my decided favorite. The Triton 2's were impressive, but given the improved room treatments the Paradigm's enjoyed in the "Theater" room over the secondary positioning of the Triton's I was somewhat unconvinced. Short of a home audition, I am unsure of my next step. I find myself considering turntable options or HDTracks downloads. The wife would prefer that I not attempt to reacquire several hundred additional vinyl platters but I am unconvinced as of yet of the real quality of downloads and the means to properly convey them. Suggestions from my esteemed colleagues are welcome.
