I currently have my Magnestand MMGs, 16" top of driver, 19" bottom of driver, from the wall. While not as good as my previous placement ala Cardas they still sound plenty good with adequate reflection of the back wave. When doing critical listening (also loud) and the spouse is away, I pull them out 2 1/2 feet from the wall and open them up. The improvement is significant.

I can do that, i never play loud, but can mirror those specs, i think i`m on my way to Maggie land, thanks.

My MMG's are toed in slightly the inside edge is 22" from the rear wall, the outside edge is 26" from the rear wall and they are 5'3" apart. they sound amazing. I had wanted to try them for a long time and finally got the chance. I was sold. I upgraded to MG12's they were stolen so now I've started the process again. I know I'll at least get some MG12's again, but I want 1.7's It's just the MMG's really fit the space. I know the MG12's will work here, they will improve the resolution without playing out of the space too much, but I figure the 1.7's will actually play out of the space but I want some anyway. I've started saving for them I've also been watching Maggies website looking for them to upgrade the MG12's I want to be ready. Come on over to Maggie land, I still get amazed at the amount of air they have even at the entry level. Magnepan customers sell Maggies, the company just manufactors them.

Its nice that MMGs only weigh 20 lbs apiece. So it is easy to move them out from the wall when listening and putting them back out of the way when not.

jmasterj, if you liked your MMGs and are thinking of spending upwards of $2000 for 1.7s, I'd seriously consider getting a pair of used MMGs and getting the Magnestand modification. With this modification they gain about 6dB sensitivity and extend about 10Hz lower. Unless you have a very large room they will outdo 1.7s. www.indiespinzone.com/magnestand.html

House, I ran MMG's with an XPA-2 and loved them. My set up was XDA-1 balanced to the XPA-2 and rca's unbalanced to a Klipsch sub-12. Yes they needed a sub. Inputs were an Oppo 83, an Apple TV2 and my Vizio Internet TV where I streamed Pandora. I had them 3 feet off the wall and about 4-5 feet apart in a room about the same size as you mention. I took a while to get the placement tweaked just right and I actually preferred the sound of them in the opposite position left and right than they recommended. They sounded awful as recommended and awesome swapped. I did toe them in and found them better focused.
