i'm finally ready for XPA-2. currently own a Parasound which has a buzz audible when i'm standing next to it. just over 4 years, its power switch is also having issues.
just wanted to check with you folks, if there are any such problems with XPA-2. by the way, the buzz is not from the speakers or any source. it is coming from the amp.

I bought my XPA-2 used, I've had it for a year and the amp is about 3 years old. It's dead quiet and I can't find anything wrong with it.
The good thing about all Emotiva products is that if, at any time in the first 5 years of the products life, anything goes wrong with the unit because of manufacturing or part quality issues they will fix it free.

The only real issue I've had was routing the preamp cables in relation to the TV and power cords.
Other than that, it depends on the sensitivity of your speakers. I've had Klipschs that hiss, especially with tube amps, but the Magnepans are as close to silent as I've ever had.
If you can't hear it from your listening position, don't sweat it. If you do hear anything, check the location of your pramp cables in relation to power cords, TV, etc.

The only way I can tell if my Emotiva power amp is on is to see the blue light -- or if there is sound coming from the speakers. ;D
Otherwise it is dead quiet. I have had it between 3 and 4 years and have not had any oddity with it. It looks, sounds, and performs like a brand new amp. I am handicapped and rarely leave the house and I play my system about 20 hours a day... sometimes longer than that.

The Emo amps that buzz are usually broken :-)

Absolutely no hum and hiss what so ever on my XPA-2. Inky black silence even with ears right next to the speakers. It's a fantastic amp. I don't have a power conditioner either, just an AV surge protector to guard my gear against lightning strikes.

Everything's just fine here on the waterfront. * Plugged directly to the AC wall outlet.

just asking if there was a pc or laptop connected up that's all, trying to weed out all types of earthing issue...
i was allowing for a htpc type setup that's, before I discount amp as the source of sound problems I look at the source end of the problem 1st.. so anything connected to avr/pre-amp is my 1st port of call then I move on from there... basic rule of troubleshooting problems..

by chance you don't have a pc/laptop connected to the avr/processor via 3.5mm stereo to rca do ya ?? no pc, no laptop and no 3.5mm connectors. this Parasound amp receives its inputs via standard rca interconnects. without any source signal, it buzzes on its own, not loud but noticeable when i'm standing by it. it has a buzz even powered off but of course, when i removed the cord, it shuts up completely.' this is what i don't want from xpa-2 which i've reserved but have not heard from emotiva yet. what is the usual timing here? a month or two? the xpa-2 page now says it is out of stock. it was 'reserve' before. are these that popular or just small inventory?

I don't disagree with your train of thought; it was just not on the same track as the OP's train of thought. I thought you might have got confused.

The good news is that you got yours reserved. Now that the RESERVE button is gone that usually means that the next full shipment of XPA-2 amps are spoken for. The bad news is that it may be some time for you to get your amp. Unless the amp is about ready to get on a boat (like within the next week or so) it will be a while before the next shipment comes in. Like Japan's Golden Week(s), China shuts down for a couple weeks to celebrate their New Year. This is a lot of Chinese workers only time off for the year. They're not lifting a finger during that time and I don't blame them. The best bet would be to give Emotiva a call and ask when the next shipment is scheduled to be in.
