Greetings everyone!
I am new to the site. Just now started updating some of my old stock. I just purchased the UPA-1's about a week ago to replace my Adcom GFA-555 amp......
I am 49 years old, and an avid vintage nut with electronics. I use to repair home entertainment equipment in early 80's and 90's. I also use to sell somewhat upper end Denon, Adcom, parasound and rotel back in the day.
My speaker collection right now consists of Genesis 66, infinity overture III's, advent legacy, AR-38's, and EPI-100's. My vintage equipment consists of technics SA-202 and SA-500 receivers, and Nad reciever...., turntables are dual cs-5000, technics dd....do not remember model, Luxman tape deck from the 90's, Adcom cd player, and Adcom tuner/preamp combo......
Right now I am just running the UPA-1's with the Genesis 66 speakers. Sound is pretty amazing with this set up. The Genesis speakers are very efficient, in that they only require 25 watts min. and will with stand 350 watts rms....practcally any amp. They are rated at 90 db. at 1 watt ....24-20,000 frreq. response. They have two 8 inch woofer, 4 inch dome mid, and inverted dome tweeter....very natural!
Anyhow, wanted to say hello.........and thank the whole Emotiva team for doing such a fine job on their equipment. Rates very well by me.
Thanks again,
Andy

Hey! And welcome to the Lounge! Love Emotiva products because without them I doubt I'd be able to afford the great sound I'm enjoying!

It has been uncharacteristically warm here for winter time, even for Florida. I'm sure old man winter will throw us a cold spell sooner or later.

I sure hope so, I'm getting tired of mowing the lawns weekly still. This is suppose to be my off season to rest up for the sweltering summer. Last year it was cold down here relatively speaking and I went bi weekly the first week of Nov. BTW, Andy welcome to the Lounge.

Welcome to the family, Andy. Glad to hear you're liking the sound from your Genesis speakers driven by the UPA-1s. Nice to have another vintage gear guy on the forum.

So....Texas how do you like the emo subs? I have an old deitisfinitive technology sub for my theatre room.....just a 12....it is ok. haveheard better. Have not done much theatre wise. Justhave Harmon/kardon rec. with pioneer bd, and pioneer plasma...
infinity overture III's in front with matching surrounds..... not home much in the summer....so, all my listening is mostly winter. too many hobbies. I may do serious upgrading on home theatre later....have a room just dedicated for that......mostly to keep the 14-16 yr old kids from driving me insane.....

I am really digging their sound. Dual subs is the way to go if you have the space. This is my first time with dual subs in my set up and I am learning a lot about sub-woofer tweaking and calibration (although I would feel better if someone with more experience than me would show me first hand). Although I'm sure one can achieve HT happiness with only one sub. These excel for two-channel music and far exceed my expectations. My Mirage don't really need a lot of help in the low end department but with the subs engaged, wow, what a sound! For HT, I am completely satisfied, however, my one disclaimer is that I seem to tend to prefer a more balanced (read: subdued) thump to my LFE. Don't get me wrong: I do enjoy clean, tight bass but perhaps not as much as others do. I don't need the cabinets to shake to enjoy my LFE. To sum, I can wholeheartedly recommend the x-ref 12s for both music and movies unless you tend to like ground shaking bass. I am still in the evaluation phase but thus far, I enjoy them very much. Slainte!

Hello Andy! I am also new as a contributor on this forum. Welcome aboard. I am also a vintage audio person. Great to hear from a fellow Virginian! Even though it's a long way to Gretna from here, my wife was born in Roanoke, grew up in Fincastle and Charlottesville, and I attended U. Va. in Charlottesville for a while before moving on. My daughter is now a senior at Radford. So we are not total strangers to more of the western parts of the state. I am jealous of that Dual CS 5000 turntable! Happy New Year! Jay

Jayj don't be to jealous. The on off desire broke behind the tonearm....so cannot find parts to repair. May find another on eBay, but they r going for around 500.00. Did not pay but 300 new. As for everyone else...I will post pictures later ....my toys r not all that compared to most.

Pardon my goof....my writes what it wants. My duals tonearm on off switch. Broke......it is or was on a sensor that rotated around the base of tonearm....when the arm was moved over album it would close switch. Not a good design.

jayj: loved the old pioneer turntables....they were very good. Also love the old AR turntables as well. the dual turntables....especially the 5000 sounded pretty good for the price. I also loved the old pioneer receivers....they were very warm...and some of the older models had class a circuitry. akai, teac, rotel and luxman made good tape decks in the day. my first system in around 1980 was a technics sa-202 receiver and technics dd turntable....still have both....had to put in new capacitors....but other than that just regular cleaning of the pots.... love the old stuff. I use to love adcom....sadly they have not kept up....moving plant to china did not help no pun intended. But, they did make a lot better equipment when it was made in nj. oh well, we are selling our souls to china...so we can afford to buy good sounding equipment!

Please do not get me wrong....I do love my emotiva!!!! I do realize how big business works. we have a plant close by that use to make picture frames and home decor....employed over 300 people...but, they could not keep up with imports...so, they bought a plant in china and now their plant is now a distribution center...along with about 50 office personel, .....the company does 80 million a year in sales......sometimes you have to go else where to survive. I do applaud emotiva, and at the same time...I wish America could rise up and be a strong economic coutry again. Just my thoughts
