;D I am super excited! I don't know if it will be worth it but am excited to see how it does. I was not super impressed with the oppo 95 so I think my only other option if I don't like this one will be an Esoteric. I figure I bought used so if I don't like it I can at least get most my money back. When I told the wife how much I spent all she could get out was "I wonder how far around the world we could have traveled on that" women they just don't get it

Congrats on your new toy. I was just wondering about the oppo 95. Did you let it fully burn in? I have the 95 and have to say it's the best sounding player to me that i have heard in a long time, and i have owned in the past several Esoteric brands. Just wondering what you didn't like about it.

The 95 - I didn't let it burn in. I pretty much listened for a couple days straight then sent it back. But the problem was not it sounding a little forward. The problem was the sound stage had no depth, it was clear but put everything on the same plane. By the end of the couple days I came to the conclusion that even though a little more detailed it just didn't have the depth the way the cheaper erc-1 had. I must say that this was with cd, sacd on the other hand did sound better than the erc-1 playing cd, as it should. In the end the 95 just didn't do it for me. While the Ayre may not either I am excited to try, and I will have the ability to play with the Ayres multiple filter settings to maybe get the sound I am looking for.

WOW! That's one incredible sounding player. I was blown away when I heard it in Brian Ding's house (of Rythmik), albeit the non MP version. With the Minimum Phase filter addition/upgrade, that's one very, fine player indeed.
Was this new or used purchase? Regardless, congratulations!

I purchased used and had the seller mail directly to Ayre in Boulder for the MP upgrade. Its pretty cheap for the upgrade. upgrade cost was only $200, that includes them looking over player, making upgrade, new box for shipment, and shipping back to me. It should be here in the next 2 weeks.

I called Ayre on Tues to make sure they received the unit, they had. I was informed that they are pretty busy right now with some shows so it would be a week or two before they could get it back out the door. Hopefully it will be closer to a week than two I will definitely update the thread once it comes in.

Well Ayre sent the wrong item lol so now I have a QB-9 to play with for a few days. So far I can say it sounds very very natural. I can't say anything bad about the way this little DAC sounds.

Nice to see that you bought the Ayre instead of "pulling the trigger" or "taking the plunge"..

Well I can say if this was the item I had bought I wouldn't "pull the plunger". Anyone in the market for a USB Dac I would highly suggest the Ayre QB-9. I am pretty pumped that they sent the wrong item, it's kinda like a free in home demo while I wait on my item.

Ayre builds some real good stuff and uses the best parts in their components. Expensive yes, but very good nonetheless.
