When that article from that link was made? Twenty years ago, or more? I don't really know Bob. You tell me. That's what the link is for: for information.

I don't know. Is the info outdated? When did all these device become commercially available? If you scroll down at the very bottom of that link, the copyright is 2012

That article reads like about 1998. And it is no longer accurate.

Modern digital correction schemes can indeed do most of what that article claims they do not. They do not only work in the FR domain, they also work across phase and time and can fully correct those portions of the in-room signal as well. What is it you're trying to learn, exactly?

I've been doing it still old school. I've never touch UMC-1's. I'm interested on this statement: ...and Bob's

This is a great subject, and I would luv to see this thread joined together with the sticky* regarding all the various Auto Room Correction & EQ systems of our world.
* Hemster helped before in starting that ditto thread, and I wouldn't mind at all, if you agree thepcguy, that Hemster join your thread with that sticky one.
I will eventually contribute much more in that sticky as this is for me a very important subject of great interest.
Best, Bob

Room treatment should be first on the list for improving sound quality. Unless you live in an anechoic chamber you should always consider room treatment as a first step. Strangely enough most people slide right past this and many don't even use the room correction software they paid for when they bought their AVR. Audio is no longer plug n play - even for stereo.

The combination of room acoustic treatments with a good auto room calibration & EQ system is a proven science in improving surround sound enjoyment in any room.

No Jam, that wasn't an insult (never comin' from me; you should know by now); but a simple observation 'bout your belief regarding the Audyssey 'cult' of followers. I thought you would have understood this.
Sorry if you misinterpreted the meaning of my above post. It was with perfect harmony and humor that I was and still am having discussions with you and all the other members. And of course, always with the very deepest respect.
Best, Bob
P.S. Did I make any typos? ...Like "understood" for instance; should it be "understand" instead?

Proper room treatment is the best way to create a good acoustic environment. But it is very time-consuming, expensive and not that aesthetically pleasing in most homes. Digital correction schemes can get the sound very close to correct in imperfect rooms, and can create outstanding sound in rooms that have been treated. But it's not either-or, and in the average home where room treatments will never be considered, good digital correction is the best thing you can offer. So, if you have the time, money, space and ability, get your room measured and properly treated. THEN use your digital room correction software, and you can approach perfection in your space. edit: what Bob said.

By the way Chuckie, I don't mind at all that you say what you want to say, and even quoting me. * I am not that childish, I am an adult. And I think it would be good for both of us to be able to discuss freely as such. So please feel free to discuss with ANYONE here, including me. Regards, Bob P.S. What happened yesterday or the day before or years ago is dead for me, and I'm always looking ahead at the Present moment, so we can all grow up and learn all together in peace and harmonius freedom.

Hope so Jam. ... So easy to misinterpret someone's real meaning when they aren't around you and talking over a nice bottle of French wine and with some great Russian caviar, and Swiss Camembert cheeze. Peace back to you! ;D

OK. Let's go there. Been out for most times and always click on the 'New Topics' at the top. There's much for me to learn in this area. I've been lucky I guess because I have an almost perfect rectangular 12 X 14 room for myself so setting manually for the most part is not a problem.

Just for pure information sake, I asked some pro experts from another forum which system is the very best. ...Among Tact, Trinnov, Audyssey, ARC, and JBL Synthesis. And one of those experts said: It depends; it depends of the amount of time you take in learning and adjusting the parameters, positioning the microphone, reading and improving the graphs accurately (by trials & errors), by measuring and remeasuring, and by fixing your room's acoustics. The more you spend with a particular system the more you get the hang of it.
And then he went on to say that he prefers Audyssey MultEQ XT32, the Pro version with the Audyssey Pro kit. Also, some of the very best pro audio writers and reviewers and professional studio recording/mixing engineers use Audyssey MultEQ XT32 Pro version for their own personal use. I am just reporting the facts. So basically, it's up to the user's preference?
