I bought six toggle bolts earlier from Walmart for around $1.50 a pair. They're 1/8" so they fit through the bracket holes easily. They will be used on the side not attached to the stud, provided I even attach to the stud now. I will have more mounting options left/right if I choose not to.
So, is 6.5 feet from the floor to the bottom of the speakers a good mounting height. I have 8 foot ceilings. Probably the furthest I can get from the back wall for either speaker is approx. 1.5 feet. I hope this is sufficient for proper dispersion.
Oh, I also had to get creative and put together this mdf block door stop because if I hadn't the garage door when fully open would knock into the speakers. So I cut two small mdf squares, screwed them over each other into the baseboard and then attached a door stopper. Now when the door contacts the stopper there is a full 5 inches of clearance and no contact will be made even with grills on.
Thanks for the help so far guys. I hope to have them mounted in the next couple of days.

You'll be fine at 6.5 feet from floor to bottom of the speakers. If it gives you greater flexibility when not mounting on studs, go for it. Placement is important and you can easily fix these speakers to the drywall.
Good job on the doorstop! We need to see some pics when you get a chance.

Would there be a lot of negatives to putting the ERD-1s in the middle of the room and facing them back towards the listening position? In my house there are perfect shelves there. They are just about 3 feet in front of where the couch will be. Silly question, but I'm Just curious. Thanks yall.

Ugh! I just received the trim package for my UPA-2, and unfortunately that's all I got. Package was ripped in transit, re-taped empty and delivered. And this was Fedex this time. UPS already screwed me out of a $650 speaker purchase. I'm still out $250 from that.
Fortunately, I called Emotiva right away and they are sending me another set. Thanks Emotiva!

Congrats on the ERDs. You're right in thinking of a UPA-2 to power them - they're more than capable. Think about the bipole/dipole setting long and hard before you mount the ERDs. It's not easy to flip the switch once they're mounted (switches are located on the back of the speaker, facing the wall). I also changed the trims on mine, for custom ash wood ones that kazoo (a fellow lounger here) did for me. If you have small fingers you can just slide the speaker up, pull the bottom out a little and switch them - I used to do that a lot when comparing the modes. You can also just pop them off easily if you leave some spare cable. The 6.3s are a little trickier as they are a tad heavier. Nemesis - broadcasting from rainy California instead of rainy Dublin this week ...

If it doesn't make the set too high (neck strain) you could put in a 6.3 and sit the TV on top of it. If the stand can handle the weight.

I found it hard to push the speaker up, hold it away from the wall without it sliding down on the bracket and get the other hand under it to sneak in fingers behind it.. all while propped up on a ladder. I wish the selector switches were on top of the unit... or perhaps on one of the sides, hidden beneath the grills. Of course the ideal solution would be to let us control the bipole/dipole mode directly from the processor! This would add to the cost but make for a hassle-free and adaptive configuration. For movies, set to dipole, for music set to bipole.. automagically. Hope Lonnie's reading this!

Nemesis, you're in the states right now? Business? Alas yes, but if any loungers are nearby (Fremont) I may have the odd free evening.

I guess it was good I bought these when I did, since I see they're now officially retired.

I bought a UPA-2 to power these from a guy in New Orleans and I should have it by mid-week.
On another purchasing front, I just bought yet another BJC lc-1 sub cable (35 ft). I think this is my 3rd or 4th sub cable from them. I love the quality, I just keep changing out subs and selling off what I have at the time. I plan to keep this one though and it will allow the most placement options over previous lengths. Though placement in my room is still quite limited.

Great to see you got it all instsalled (neatly) Wes - but how does it sound? Nemesis - sitting in SFO at the start of another 20+ hours of travel. Lonnie has my sympathies but Franklin to Amsterdam is not quite as bad I suspect - China is likely a little longer.

Nemesis, your recommendation for the 6.3 under the tv as a center has me thinking. Others have said the best way to go is three identical speakers across the front. Apparently the 6.3 has a slightly more pronounced midrange.
Other than this working out better as far as the entire tv base fitting onto the 6.3, I like the large center channel 'look'. I just think having the itty bitty 6.2 front and center in comparison to a 'true' center channel (6.3, rsc200 bigfoot, etc) looks awkward.

Well I have 7 x 6.3 which I can highly recommend - there is also a level switch on the back of the 6.3s so you can raise or lower the mid (and indeed the tweeter too) level by 2db. IMO they do have better mids (vocals in particular) due to the extra 2 drivers - if you put your ear to a 6.3 you can actually tell the vocals are coming from the 2 x 4" drivers. When there is a "lot going on" e.g. rock or movies, having the vocals separated likely does yield a cleaner reproduction.
That said, the 6.2 is deeper (front to back) so depending on your stand might actually be the better fit.
I have 3 x 6.2s as well BTW.
P.S. Jet-lag sucks!

I also use 3 ERM-6.3 speakers for the front stage in my HT system. You will have to look long and hard to find a more "life-like" reproduction of sound. If you use a good musical sub woofer, the 6.3s are nearly the perfect choice for your fronts and center. They have a huge bang for the buck.
