Hi, all - new to this forum; looking to possibly become an Emo owner.
My setup has fronts that can take up to 250W and the center can take up to 175W - all 89dB sensitivity. My AVR is a Yamaha, rated at 95WPC - surely producing nowhere near that all (7) channels driven.
I have been considering a 3 or 5 channel amp, and like the looks of and reviews on the XPA line. As you all know, the shipping/duty, etc. to get one of these bad boys to Canada is a little harsh, so I'm putting some feelers out to see if there is anyone in my area with one of these units looking to part with it.
I think my first preference is the XPA-3 (as my current speakers are not bi-ampable and I think the AVR can handle the surrounds and front heights) - looking for it in very good/excellent/mint condition, preferably with some warranty left.
Willing to consider units outside of NB/Atlantic Canada, but don't really want to pay a ton extra for shipping.
If you have something like this, give me a shout with model, asking price and location.
Thanks

Finding someone who owns them and lives out in your beautiful part of our Country might be difficult. Finding one who is willing to part with his XPA's just adds to the challenge. May I suggest you post a "wanted" add on www.canuckaudiomart.com?

I think my wife is heading to the Maine on a shopping trip within the next month, so I might get one shipped to the nearest Kinek drop and she can pick it up on the way by....

May have located an XPA-3 - what's a good price for one of those up here, with just under 4 years warranty left?

Ask for a quote on a new one shipped to you door and then decide. No reflection on the XPA-3 your looking at, but the resale + shipping is so high on many emotiva items that (in my observation) buying new isn't much more, plus only you have had the chance to (ab)use it. I'm just waiting to see if there's a spring sale on the horizon to buy a few things

I'm just waiting to see if there's a spring sale on the horizon to buy a few things I did get a quote on a new one, and it would basically be a grand Canadian, shipped to me after all duties and taxes. So the seller's price would save me quite a chunk in comparison. But, if I waited until the next sale (maybe as far away as July 1), and had it delivered to a Kinek point and crossed over to get it, the difference becomes much smaller. But, the used one would still be cheaper. But on the flip side, the new one has full 5-yr warranty. So, it's a tradeoff.

I just bit the bullet and had mine shipped to my door. Nobody sell anything like a power amp with in a four hours drive of me, the price, including shipping, was so reasonable in comparison to any competitors amp, nobody else was screwing around with it before me and seeing that quality audio components are relativity rare and hence hard to find used in the Maritimes made paying for the shipping a no brainer.
Just use Fed-Ex or USPS as UPS charges hidden brokerage fees.
cheers ken

Matt at Emotiva gave me a very detailed quote breakdown for both the 3 and the 5, but I don't think he specified who the shipper was, so probably UPS I assume. The price the seller wants for this particular unit is just the right point to put me on the fence. I guess it's a good point that it may look good on the outside, but I have no idea how it has been used/abused....

I am 99% sure it's Fedex Ground and from the quote I received, I was told that emotiva will refund any extra charges they collect. My understanding is that their quote is their best estimate on the price to your door - not price + fedex/ups fees.

I just bought a new XPA-5 and I found it very resonable.. The unit is $899 and to my door cost me FedEx Ground $1126 So $226 shipped to MY door in Ajax, Ont That covered duties, Taxes, and brokerage fees..and it weighs 86Lbs shipped

Yes, I've had Emotiva give me quotes on an XPA-3 or 5 shipped to me - it was about $990 for the XPA-3 and $1,230 for the XPA-5 (taxes, duties, etc.).
I might eventually have to go that route, but if so, will probably wait until at least the (hopefully) Holiday sale to get one a little cheaper.

Hey there I am in Halifax. How'd the summer go? Hey, bird - the summer was fine - not long enough - except that my grand plan to order an XPA during the sale and have it shipped to the border for me to pickup didn't work out The place in Houlton isn't open on Sundays, and only open until 3 on Saturdays. We crossed over on a Sunday and came back on a Saturday, passing thru Houlton around 6ish. So the timing just wasn't going to work out. Would have been sweet too as I could have gotten it within my duty allowance, saving a few more bucks. Unfortunately, doesn't look like I will me making any more trips across any time soon, so either need to find one here in Canada or resort to ordering one. I've got time - I don't absolutely need it - but the itch is killing me...
