First real weekend with the new toys!
So far having a lot of fun. I feel like I have limitless power with the XPA. No noise, no distortion, very, very happy.
Really enjoying the UMC controls as well. Gives most all of the controls that I need, and buries all the ones like DSP so I don't have to see them.
I really enjoyed the sound on my HK that this replaced. Out of the box I was a touch disappointed with the UMC's sound, but I also have a small reflective and Klipsch towers. My Klipsch really were sounding like the Klipsch that plenty on the web seem to complain about. Very bright and trebly, aggressive, and in your face. After a few days of trying to get EMO-Q to work, I'm happy to report it finally ran, and the result is much closer in sonic output to what I desire and strive for. Have another mic on the way, and expect an improvement.
Multichannel performance is stellar. Significant improvement with movies at obnoxious theater levels, and a surprising improvement in SACD / DVD-A multi-channel discs. Stereo sources are benefiting from the equalizers, the turntable is a bit flat (not surprising really)
May write up a review once I've had sufficient time with the units. Very pleased thus far. Will be buying more as funds allow. Emotiva has had great service, appropriately informing me on delays on shipment of the UMC, and helping a bit with the EMO-Q. Very glad that their tech on the phone (Mark?) was quite helpful, and did not insult my intelligence like a call center would. He got straight to the problem, without starting at step 2 when I needed to fix step 27. Much appreciated.
For reference:
Replaced a Harman Kardon AVR 347 that continually failed HDCP after being unplugged when I decided to act as Martha Stewart.
Emotiva UMC-1, XPA-3, UPA-2. Klipsch RF-62's, RC-62, RS-52's and RW-12D. Pioneer Elite DVD-45A, older Pioneer BluRay and HK DVD player. Audio-Technica AT-PL120 & Airport. Calibrated Panasonic P42TH something or another for video and XBOX.
Second system is iMac with Marantz 4240, Klipsch RB-61's and Yamaha YP-D4 Turntable from the thriftstore.
