Hey Fellas.
Just thought I'd let everyone know I'm doing my part in trying to get our country out of a recession by stimulating the economy! This sub forum is great for showing off new gear with like minded folks, so I'll do just that. Wives never will appreciate the awesomness like we do. Anyhow, I made some pretty significant changes to my HT over the past few months. They are as follows
1) A newly constructed riser. I still have to choose my stain, but it's complete with rope lighitng
2) "Inherited" a pair of Vienna Beethovens. (not the baby). These replaced my $400 Klipsch Best Buy speakers that I've had since 2008. Still need to find the Maestro Grand center, or something equivalant, since I'm not properly timbre matched now.
3) XPA-5!
Let me just say that I'm in sound bliss right now. Outside of a pre-amp switch out, I don't think I really could have made a more substantial upgrade. I'm generally 80% gaming and HT/20% music. That may change now. I plan on posting a more in-depth review of the XPA-5 over the amp forum when I get some time. Short version = HUGE changes. I wasn't sure what to expect by going from a high sensitivity to low sensitivy/impedence speaker and I was worried about my SPL. Hah.
Music: Like I said, the speakers sound amazing with the XPA-5. Vocals are as crisp and distinct. Mid bass is ridiculously good. I have twin A7s-450s and they aren't necessary in my 3200 cu/ft room. But after listening to some rock, Diana Krall, Adele, and some others using the "Pure Audio". I found myself listening to a hellof alot more music. If any of you guys have examples of awesome CD's recordings that hit on the Jazz/Funk/Blues area, PM me
Movies: First film watched in the new setup was "Super 8". Holy bejezzus. The train wreck scene. I closed my eyes during the scene where the train approaches, and it sounded like I was actually sitting in the station. Then the wreck. Wow. Pronounced, full, clear. I was listening at about -7db. Should have had my SPL meter out, but no distortion. Have to ask myself how much of a sweat the XPA-5 was actually breaking.
My only concern were some of the highs. A little on the bright side. I'm not sure if this is something that can easily be remedied with some EQ, or it's the nature of the amp.
I also noticed big time changes in what was revaled in my ERD-1s. Noticed things that I didn't before, more pronounced etc.
Will post pics when I get a chance.
