Hi.
I have been doing some updates to my system and purchased the UMC-1 while waiting for the XMC-1 to hit the streets. I have been very happy with the processor and especially the great folks at Emotiva. I followed up with the Mini-X a100 for my iMac and, WOW, it really has some punch, especially when listening to lossless content.

In response to the question about using a DAC with the Mini-X, no I'm letting the computer be the preamp. I wasn't sure how successful that would be, but in an iMac, the headphone jack is a line out, so I decided to give it a try. It works great using the iTunes equalizer to trim the output. I am re-ripping a bunch of CDs using the Apple Lossless Encoder (746k). That makes a big difference. There is a whole lot of data missing at 128/160k.
