Does anybody have a picture of the newer type remote supplied with the USP-1?

I think call Emo to request and they may send you one

I think call Emo to request and they may send you one No, I am afraid that is not correct. The USP-1 pre-amps that were shipped with the small plastic remote controls had a code overlap with the UMC-1 HT Processor. To fix that problem, Emotiva changed some of the IR codes in the USP-1 pre-amps and shipped them with the aluminum brick remote control. Since then all USP-1 pre-amps come with the aluminum remotes. If you have one of the USP-1s that shipped with the plastic remote control and wish to replace the plastic remote control with the new aluminum remote, you will have to ship your USP-1 back to Emotiva to have the new IR codes installed in the Front Panel. The price to purchase the new aluminum remote is $65, if I remember correctly.

I talked to Vince. It's $50 and you do have to ship it back. Would be nice to have but not worth $100 plus the time without a system.

Thank you for the clarification/update. I also have one of the earlier USP-1s with the plastic remote (which I have already had to replace under warranty). While I would dearly love to have one of the new remotes (which would match my ERC-1 remote) I do not think that I can afford to ship my USP-1 back to Emotiva for the code upgrade.
Cheers, Deral

Is there a way to tell which code set (original or updated) an old USP-1 preamp has from the serial number or anything like that? I bought a USP-1 some time ago without the remote (I don't know if it was the plastic or metal remote that originally came with it). The best I can tell, the IR receiver isn't working or at least none of the nine Emotiva codes listed for my universal remote do anything (including the code in the remote database specifically for USP1). I'm trying to decide on the best way to approach this problem before opening it up and checking the IR receiver.
