Greetings to all,
Hello, I am new to the Lounge, and have just ordered a pair of UPA-1 monos and an XDA-1 DAC/Pre. I am looking forward to using all three to drive my Infinity Kappa 9's.
Like many of you I am coming off of another system (actually several), and have simply grown tired of the perpetual swapping out of gear. Two of my friends own a few Emotiva pieces, and have been trying to get me to come on board for a long while. I figured, what the heck, and finally ordered some.
I won't put too much down here and now, as I want to save my comments for the new system, once it arrives. After which, I will report my thoughts and impressions.
I will say this, I have been very impressed with the Emotiva pieces that my friends own, and I am so looking forward to seeing what they can do in my own set-up. I'm glad to be aboard. Stay tuned for more...

Great pick up!I also have two UPA-1's and Luv them!I tryed looking into getting monos from other's like Rotel and so on, but they where like way too much money, at 349 each they are a steal!350 watts into 4 ohms and they run just a lil warm!Killer headroom.Injoy!

WPM, welcome to the herd! There are no better price/performance amps on the planet than the Emotiva products, nothing even that close. Don't ignore the other products too which also have the factory direct to buyer advantage plus a 5 year transferable warranty.

Welcome to the emo family
The upa-1 are not fully balanced so you won't get any advantage running balanced from the xda-1, that said the RCA signal is fine. If really wanted the fully balanced differential operation the xpa-1's would be the ticket. Not to late perhaps but I doubt you will be disappointed with the setup you have got yourself. I have the same gear but in different configurations ... I have way too much emo gear heheheh

Great stuff wpm! After giving the system a week, MAKE SURE TO RIGHT A REVIEW! I would love to read it. You are quite right! Swapping out tons of different audio gear for different inputs is a pain and I feel that the XDA-1 REALLY shines in that regard. I have saved so much time (and cabling) inputting everything digitally into the XDA-1 and just switching them. All my equipment actually gets used more now. My HD-DVD player is now being used as a standalone CD-player for convenience without even needing an HDMI out to my tv, my ps3 does streaming video,DVD, and blu-ray service, and my laptop does foobar and youtube service. All switched at the touch of a bottom at great quality. I love that you can have multiple (relatively) high resolution audio signals coming in at different bit rates at the same time and being able to switch without having a hiccup. I'm not sure if you mentioned this or not about balanced audio, but I just want to agree with wizardofoz's comments. I found the Balanced to unbalanced cables from monoprice introduced some audibly noticeable buzzing or an increased noise in the soundfloor if you are wondering about that route. I don't know what was causing it and if it was the cables fault or an inherent fault in the way I was doing it. Regardless, I wouldn't recommend this route either. Go straight unbalanced.

Thank you for the warm welcome! You guys are great. So much nicer than some of the other fourms I've visited.
Typically, one would would have followed this comment with an LOL! but, seriously, some of the forums I've been to are very abusive in nature, and I find that it detracts from the purpose of good, friendly, audio-speak.
I don't recall mentioning the use of balanced options in my opener, but thanks for pointing out your findings. I have a decent selection of cables, both balanced and standard, so I will experiment with both and include the findings in my report.
On that note, I received my notice of shipment today, and the gear is scheduled to arrive early next week. I will put them to work straight away, so keep an eye on this spot.
Again, thanks for the warm welcome. Cheers!
Marty
