so the headphone output will not support 5.1?

The headphone output will most likely have the 2 channel mix down. Since 99.99% of headphones only have 2 channels and no sub. You will be able to listen to 5.1 sources, but only through your stereo headphones.
Now they might have something that simulates surround sound, like Dolby headphone. But it hasn't been mentioned... And that is still 2.0.
If you want 5.1 headphones you will probably have to find some that do the decoding themselves.

5.1 headphones are good for gaming, which is what I use them for.

This is pure speculation since I don't know exactly how it works, but it seems like you could (in theory) force Dirac to only work over a certain frequency range by simply setting your own response curve to exactly what you room already produces on the frequencies you don't want to touch. Anyone know if that's possible? Very astute idea, but unfortunately not possible. The target curve editor simply cannot replicate its computed response detail. The green curve in the graph shows the electrical response of one channel of Dirac (from a Datasat AP20). The violet curve is me emulating it with a 5-band PEQ, so you an see the challenge in trying to copy the computed curve. View AttachmentIs that assuming that the implementation of Dirac in the XMC-1 is the same as the AP20, though?

It may be alive but if no one ever gets to purchase one what's the point? I've held back my AV purchase and can't wait any longer so off to Marantz I go.
