great to see steve review it though I think his cred is shot to hell anything he reviews i don't give him the time of day as a credible review source..
i've seen him bag emo when i seen review 1 of the xpa amp some month's like he was trying to sell the more expensive equipment rather than review emo's gear..
nice to s cnet revoew it though I just wish it was another reviewer reviewing it.. look's more like a window shoppers report that you might see at axponia or other audio trade shows..

In two more days my mini-X a-100 will probably arrive here. I purchased it before being aware of this forum, and based my purchase on Steve Gutengerg's competent and revealing review. I have read end enjoyed Mr. Gutenberg's reviews in the past, to include another Emotiva product he liked, the Airmotiv 4 active speaker.
The review of the active speaker was particularly pertinent to me because I have used one pair of Paradigm Active/ 20 speakers for over six years. Interesting to read a review of a speaker concept so well known by me.
Had I known that Mr. Gutenberg is disapproved of in this forum, I would have probably discounted his enthusiasm for the mini-X a-100 I purchased, and looked elsewhere. Probably Parasound Zamp(sp?) or something similar.
Why is Mr. Gutenberg's credibility discounted in this forum? I would like to know this territory better, now that I purchased one Emotiva, sight unseen and ears unheard.
Thankyou for orienting me, bauzace50

I don't think everybody shares in the opinions of the one member who posted distaste for Mr.Gutenberg, so I would say that you should not reflect upon a whole the actions of a single member. Now that being said, I do appreciate some of CNET's reviews, and other reviewers as well. You need to take everything with a grain of salt these days though. When you see something like a review by StereoPhile magazine, you have to remember that the review merchandise is likely being sent in by companies that pay for advertising within the mag itself. To write a negative review about the companies who are your very life blood (advertising money) would be like biting the hand that feeds you. That being said, a lot of reviews are well written enough, you really just have to cut through the fog of adjectives being used and find useful tidbits of data underneath. I prefer the type of reviews that not only gives the reviewers opinion but also hard evidence of what it is they are hearing. Frequency response graphs, impedance graphs, manufacturer versus measured specification charts, etc. If this were available for all electronics we all could have been saved a few horrible purchases. Just my .02

I don't mind reading c/net reviews just some reviewers, I have distane for openly trying to flog a sales speak spiel in a review, in the regards to steve he may write great reviews sometimes..
though when someone goes on the attack to push something else vs writing a credible review on the product in front of them, loses them cred and anything they review will always be tainted...

Do we really need a reviewer to tell us that our ears are right ? I have owned the mini x-100 since it came out and I can't find anything in it's size that compares to it. It drives many of my floorstanding speakers better then my highly rated expensive avr's.
