First post and wanted to say hello from So Cal.
I've been reading the forum for over a year and thought I might as well join in. I really like reading all of your posts, and feel like the regulars here are like old friends at this point. You all have fun personalities that really come through on your posts. I appreciate the humor as well as the enthusiasm for the hobby and for your willingness to share your expertise.
Just bought my first Emo gear this January -- UMC-1 and XPA-2, plus some interconnects. Running a 1985 Denon DCD 1500 CD player that I can't believe is still working! It was originally running through a Kyocera 851 receiver, which is a Mosfet high-current design (which still works too!). I have literally been listening to the same equipment for the last 27 years! So it was a big deal for me to get into Emo, and I'm having a lot of fun with it.
The new equipment really opens up the Spica TC-50's, which are not efficient at 4 ohms. The XPA-2's headroom has wonderful control of the mid-bass and only now have I heard what the Spica's mids are truly capable of rendering. The detail and air, as well as the imaging and soundstage is dramatically improved. Plus, I barely light one LED at near reference levels. My main fear is blowing the Spica's out!
My sub is a old M&K V3B 12" connected by RCA to the UMC sub out.
Do any of you have much knowledge of the equipment I was using?
For HT, unfortunately, my TV is too old to have HDMI, so I am running the BluRay via component to the TV, and running the sound via digital coaxial to the UMC-1. The UMC overlay is via a separate component connection. Not the best usage, I guess, but it really does sound good. Is there a better way to do this?
Hopefully, it won't be another 27 years, but I'd like to try some new speakers too. I'm interested to see what Emo does with their new reference speaker line. If it has the ribbon tweeter, it might compare to the Salk RT Songtowers and the Goldenear Tritons?
Looking forward to now participating in a few discussions. And hope to visit the show in Newport this June. I live just 5 minutes from there. Maybe I'll see some of you!
