Noob here! Just joined the forum and actually just discovered Emotiva over the weekend.
I'm slowly building a system with which I can enjoy my vinyl and CD collection. I've been toting around my box of LP's for decades so it's time to start enjoying them again.
I've put together a modest system to start. Harman Kardon HK 3390 on blowout at Amazon. Polk Audio Monitor 60's from their ebay store. Refurbished pair for $279 shipped. Currently using an old Sony DVD player to spin CD's. Awaiting delivery of an old Pioneer PL-518 turntable.
So, my first step on the upgrade path is a ERC-2 that I ordered yesterday!
Supposed to ship on 4/25 so I'll be anxiously awaiting it's arrival.
I'm seriously eyeing the USP-1 as well as a pair of the UPA-1's. Looks like just what I need!
Great place you got here!

Welcome to the Emotiva forum. You've found one of the best kept secrets in home audio.
I also have the HK 3390. FWIW its a great stereo receiver. You might get some incremental gains from buying the USP-1/UPA-1 combo but it won't be an earth shattering gain IMO. Most of the gain will be more power since the 3390 only has 80wpc. More than enough for my bedroom - maybe not enough for your Polks.

Thanks knucklehead! I agree, I'm pretty happy with the HK. It is a big unit, it's very clean looking. Esthetically it's awesome. Sounds good too. My setup is in my living room, biggest room in the house. The Polks are rated at 200W. Only thing about the HK I wonder about is that freakishly large remote control. Was that a joke on the designer's part? I'm going to post in the gun thread that while I don't own a gun (actually I do) I do own an HK 3390 remote control, so perps beware! LOL.

Yeah, but I have a UMC-1 Remote, and I don't believe you're allowed to conceal those.

Welcome to the Lounge Mr. Jones!
I think you made some excellent choices to start your system! (ERC-2. USP-1, UPA-1's ....... impressive!).
BTW, you just made it under the wire as I understand they are going to close the Lounge to any more members from Colorado. That was close!

I want to buy a Townes Van Zandt album. I looked on Wiki and there are TEN compilation albums. Anyone have one that they recommend or know whcih one might be best?

Why not check out Amazon.com. Lost of the albums there give you a 30 second or so preview to get the flavor of the songs.

I listened to quite a few on YouTube Quite a prolific writer and a good artist. Another life laid low via drugs. Wiki says he was treated for addiction using Insulin Shock Treatment. That is just horrible.
As for the albums, it becomes a crapshoot. So many different versions, mixes and levels of chemical distortion in each copy. Quite a few released after his death.
