HMM... Keep my xpa-5 or sell and get upa-500 and xpa-2? So many options now. I defintely don't need 200 watts for my weak surrounds.

Absolutely perfect for somebody with high sensitivity speakers or somebody with a small room. It still has better power specs than a lot of the receivers out there.

I got to admit, I was expecting at least over 100 watts into 8 ohms with all channels driven. But I didn't realize it was going to be in a 2RU chassis. I suppose 80 is plenty for a lot of folks though.

Oh dear and the THD+N is now measured at 1 watt There has been redesigning done.... AND THE UPA-1 IS TAKEN OFF THE WEBSITE!!!!!! Can't deny it's not a bad deal at 399. But I am not happy at the *almost* neutering of what was left of the U-series. Note that this 5 channel amp weighs less than my UPA-2...there's a reason everything's measured at 1 watt and why there's no pic of the insides on the website itself. I would guess that this is a 5 channel miniflex not a u-series amp.

Here's hoping that maybe they will modify the UPA-1 and turn it into the XPA-100?!! Since it had more in common with the X-series anyways. In a way, makes sense, you can see the new UPA has smaller chassis, nor it has XLR connections anymore. Perhaps we'll see a UPA-300 @ 100 watts per channel UPA-200 @ 125 watts per channel UPA-100 @ 150 watts per channel and the XPA-100 fully balanced @ 200 watts (8ohms) - 400 watts (4ohms) wishfull thinking

This looks like a very good amp for my 2nd system once I get an XMC-1.
I am surprised the UPA-1 is gone, though. Hopefully, they will be coming out with a whole new line of U-series including a new monoblock. Those were nice options for many people.

I too was a little disappointed with the UPA-500 amp. I expected 125 wpc with all channels driven into 8 ohms. I was also surprised to see that the UPA-1 is no longer around. Seems all the amps I have and might want another one are now no longer available.

Hi guy's, Well I can't win....
Seriously though, the Ultra Series is gong to be completely reinvigorated over the next couple of months,... ye of little faith!
OK, just to be clear, even though I didn't want to spoil the surprise...
We have the UPA-500, a VERY sweet little amp that will blow you minds when you hear it. It has tremendous real world dynamic capabilities and is the perfect power point for many systems. Remember, we give to the true power specs. worst case. In reality, the capabilities of this amp will really surprise you. We make no apologies and urge you to give it a listen.
Following closely will be the all new UPA-200, then the all new UPA-700
The UPA-1 is discontinued and has been upgraded and will be released as the new XPA-100 very soon. As you all know this amp was essentially an X Series amp and we decided it deserved to be in the X Series line up. There will be a new XPA-200 rounding out that end of the line.
We are still working on a UPA-100 replacement which is an all new design, based on the new Ultra Series, but it is too early to announce the exact power and details.
We have many more models coming out shortly, and I want to make it clear to all that we are fully committed to making the Ultra Series a full line once again. This will include a new Ultra processor, more amps, and many other goodies to be announced.
Hang in there. There is a method to the madness!! The Ultra Series and the X Series will be distinctly different from each other in features, construction techniques, and power... but they will all share the Emotiva design DNA and overall build quality. Something for everybody and every budget!!
It's all good!
Cheers from Germany, Big Dan

They retired the UPA-1 without any warning? Wow.
I have 2 AVRs and the lesser of the two, the Onkyo TX SR504, can equal the performance of the UPA-500, so I wouldn't be interested in it. Perhaps they'll have a 2 channel that can do better.

Perhaps they'll have a 2 channel that can do better. It's been on clearance for several months.... this indicates it is coming to end of life. So, no surprises. We're sold out of the old model. As I mentioned, there are replacements in the works, so no one is being left out in the cold. As to the UPA-500's power capabilities being equal to your Onkyo, SR504, let's give them a run shall we?? I know that amp quite well and the UPA-500 will easily outperform it. Not knocking Onkyo at all, just stating a fact... and you'll be able to touch it all the while without burning your hand. Just messing with you a little!

Thanks Dan. Even though you are far away, your heart is still with us. Thanks for the heads up on the goodies in the pipeline. I will need a new 7 channel amp to go with my XMC-1. It would be nice if its model number begins with an "X" also ;D.
