I decided to make a switch, again, my house is a revolving door for audio....I really wasnt a huge fan of the umc-1 but for the price, its a bargain...at any rate the reason for my switch was for home theater - IMO the emoQ is not good...for stereo it sounded really good though
So I purchased the Anthem a couple days ago and first just set it up without the ARC...First impressions i was very skeptical. The umc-1 just sounded better IMO...After setting up the ARC (which is a hassle but well worth it) It is in a different league for Home Theater, i was floored how much of a difference it made. It made everything open up, especially the rears...the center and the sub sound miles and miles better as well.
OK so before buying this unit i did research on the setup because im very impatient and i knew if it was too hard i would give up and return it. Well i pre purchased the serial to usb adapter at newegg.com, i made sure i had delivered before i purchased the Anthem. REason being is the place only has a 7 day return policy, so i wanted to make sure i could get it set up and test it out before the 7 days were up. First off the direction of the ARC suck! They use 2 pages of text and no real pictures to explain what has to be done...just laziness! Anyways - you plug this adapter from the back of the reciever to your computer - it is so much easier with a laptop i had to use a desktop cause the rest of my stuff is mac and its not compatable. Them you have a usb from the mic that also plugs into the computer. FRom their you launch the provided arc software and press run setup. You then have to select how many speakers you are using and start the process. There are 5 postions you need to move the mic. Now the reciever reboots several times in the process. It took me 20-30 min to complete. It was actually pretty easy. After all said and done you upload the setting to your computer and you can view all the frequency graphs - pretty cool.
Right away i noticed how the center blended so much better with the fronts, and the rears really came alive...the sub sounds alot louder but its quick, clean and accurate...im quite impressed.
For stereo - they have 2.0 music and 2.0 movies - i'd have to say i normally dont like stuff like this, but it sounds very very good. They only thing that i am not sure on yet is of the umc-1 sounded better or not in stereo. All i can say is that im not dissatisfied with the 2.0 music, it sounds great
I have only done about an hour of listening so i will report more once i get a feel for it
By the way my amp is an LPA-1 - i do have an XPA-2 on its way and will arrive Mon, so im very excited
