Hi guys! Just got in the HT game here this year. Never had much more than TV speakers most of my life. I fixed that good I think!
I started with just wanting some boom. Somehow I got pointed towards some Elemental Designs stuff. I first had a 300w 12 picked out. Got that upgraded to a 500w 15, A350. Holy subwoofer! Its huge, but thats fine, I have a huge basement. May even go for a 2nd one some day.
I got to thinking about how I could never hear what people were saying in movies, and decided to get some front speakers. ED makes a 6T6 enter and 6T towers. The towers are alright with 3 mids per, and the center is huge with 4 mids. Its as wide as my 52" TV?! They sure sound way better than the TV speakers lol. not hard to accomplish but these are pretty good for the money.
After I got the speakers ordered up, I needed something to run them. AVR was all I was thinking. My bro told me to look up the XPA-5. Holy crap... overkill I thought at the time. Not now. I am so glad I got one.
While I was at it I picked up a UMC-1 of course and some ERD-1 surrounds. Love the look of the amps and the finsh on the speakers is absolutley perfect. Love the magnetic grills.
So thats where I was a couple weeks ago. 5.1 setup that I was pretty happy with. Then the ERT 8.3s came on clearance.... Gotta get those!! I ordered a set and my brother got a set too with a 6.3 center. 3 days after ordering they were all gone!! Wheew!!
I love the 8.3s. Way better than the 6T towers from ED. But cost was double, even at the clearance price. So they are a pretty good upgrade. I wanted a XPA-2 to drive them but couldn't spring the cash at the time and didn't want to miss the speakers.
Oh well, later this year I'll pick up a XPA-2 and XMC-1
I'll have a few questions for some of you guys I am sure. Pretty much a newb for HT. I do a lot of gaming on the PS3 and watch a lot of blurays so I figure a good system was a good investment.
I tell you what, the 15" sub sure made explosions in Call of Duty pretty intense. I love it.
