XPR-5 was transfered from Paris to Brussels last night, went through customs this morning and then to the local FedEx facility in Antwerp later today. Est delivery: Aug 1. But what does this remark mean: "Package not due for delivery"? Uh oh, I hope that doesn't mean its been damaged in shipment! :-o Probably a mistaken comment, or otherwise innocuous...hope, hope,...let us know when you know please!

Est delivery: Aug 1. But what does this remark mean: "Package not due for delivery"? Normally it means that it's "ahead of schedule" in the transit process and they'll hold it for a day or so... So they don't deliver earlier than estimated. Why? I dunno. You'd think that if it's ready to go out for delivery they'd just do it.

But what does this remark mean: "Package not due for delivery"? It simply means that it arrived at the destination(local) FedEx Express facility after the mornings sort facility processed their days deliveries to go on road, and that your XPR-5 should go on a delivery vehicle tomorrow morning. More than likely, someone at your address will be required to be there to sign for your XPR-5.

Alright, I laid it down... Submitted my order. Boom. XPR is on its way! Now someone needs to buy my MPS-1, my three UPA-1s, and my UPA-5!

Perhaps it means that they are trying to work out if they can tax you by weight.

By some chance I was still at home when FedEx lady came. Poor woman was lucky to have two strong guys here to do the lifting... But I have to say that the first sight of the thing was an unfortunate one... Cardboard package was barely holding on because the front part was wet. The whole thing was held together by the 3 plastic strings. After I opened it (in presence of the FedEx woman), also the polystyrene protects were torn. With more luck than anything else, the exterior of the amp seems to have survived without damage. This packaging is seriously below par for such a heavy thing! Why not use polymer padding (the plastic stuff) and better quality cardboard (water resistant)? I will power up later with ERC-1/XDA-1 and Jamo R909 in 2ch. Attachments:

Wow, that packaging - especially the broken styrofoam is very concerning. I've saved the packaging from my Emo amps........... but that packaging looks sad! I'm not a fan of the cheap styrofoam, especially for such a big heavy amp. Why was nice foam used for older XPA amps, UPA-7, etc and styrofoam used for the XPR? No doubt the exterior is in bad shape, but I'd hope that whatever is used inside was a little more robust. (Hint, Hint Emotiva..... ) Floss - Did you ever get your replacement? Did that fare better than the original?

WOW! ALL my other emo amps came packed better than that!!! All the others have been in the plastic padding that stays together, not styrofoam!!
C'mon EMOTIVA! Your heaviest amp gets far lower quality packaging than even the UPA-1? This is serious oversight on their part!
We know of one owner who got a damaged one, and Erwin looks to be very lucky his isn't damaged, at least at first glance!
Yikes!

Oh wow,...don't like to see THAT! Be sure to report on how (if?) it powers up and runs okay. Hope its otherwise good, and no issues, and we're all looking forward to your first 'post-installation' reports! (Seems everyone's agreed that this heavy of an amp needs much better packaging!).

Wow. Those shipping materials are quite a mess.
It seems that the majority of folks (here on the forum) who purchased the XPR-5 had problems with the shipping materials. For a flagship amplifier, this is going to get expensive for Emotiva to handle.
I think it's in Emo's best interest to revise the shipping materials to better protect the assets. Has anyone actually called to alert the Emo staff of this situation? I know we all like to post in the forum, but I'm sure they don't check every thread.
I'm not bashing Emotiva, I'm just really concerned that the traditional methods of packing aren't working for a 94-pound flagship amplifier.

Received my XPR-5 just in time for the olympics last week. Just got approval to post on board yesterday. Running 11.1 on MK 150 THX system for the 5 and Mirage OMD for the 6 plus PB Ultra for the sub. AVR4311 has now been put in preamp mode. I moved my XPA-5 to the Mirages, (bought a UPA-200 to address the 6th), XPR-5 now drives the MK 150 THX's.
In summary, instantaneous household (that includes the spouse) unanimity that the system now sounds materially better. Faster, clearer and more detailed are the adjectives that immediately come to mind. When before I would require blue-ray zero loss movies to fully enjoy and savor my system, I now almost secure that performance on digital cable compressed 5.1 tracks. Obviously not using anyywhere close to the power output the XPR-5 is capable of but there is no question there is more here than raw power.
Regarding lights not much was happening so just put it into lowest light mode in my av closet which is out of site and am done w that.

Hi, sorry for the delayed response.
The replacement XPR we received luckily survived shipping this time. Same quality of packaging but the amp itself was pretty much flawless and physically cleaner than the previous damaged amp, which had some visible dirt scuffs all over the front baffle. The new one arrived about a week ago and i've had some time to play around with it. During this time we also received new speakers so we have the XPR power 5 channels. I threw on some audio-intensive blu-ray quality scenes from War of the Worlds and Tron, and at near reference levels, all meters are very active. I'd like to note that sitting on a table with completely open space for ventilation, it got very hot to the touch.
Stereo music at very loud volumes via Airplay also seemed to show a good amount of LED activity with our new speakers. The meters are still quite passive with cable TV, but that of course has to do with the source material and the generally quieter signal being fed from satellite.
Speaker hiss is only noticeable with the ear practically touching the speakers, and even then it's extremely minor. From any appreciable distance, it's dead quiet. Overall, the sound is great -- very smooth and clear and not harsh at all. For the money, it's an excellent buy, but I agree with you all...Emotiva seriously needs to revise their packaging.

Mailed Emotiva Sales before posting here to complain about packaging. Got a reply that they talked to Loniie and We will be talking to our boxing company to rectify this immediately.A 2,000 euro amp deserves a quality box! I didn't have the chance to try it. Me and the kids will be working at the house next few days. Got to get it ready to install the HT! Attachments:

Agree the packaging should be a bit better, but...nobody has said the obvious yet: what the heck is the shipper doing letting it get so wet & also it looks like it wa man-handled pretty badly. The shipper, IMHO, has a responsibility to properly care for packages.
I just ran into this myself in shipping my Paradigm's to the buyer in Mass...the shipper man-handled the packages pretty badly. Watching the tracking info had gotten me concerned. From the time they were picked up, it looks like the transferred trucks at least 5 times. I am sure that each truck transfer was just 1 more opportunity for them to drop them...which it appears they did quite well.
The best packaging has a hard time holding up to a shipper who lets a package get soaking wet and/or drops it routinely.
In any case, I look forward to hearing the reviews on more XPR's!

While I agree that the shipper can make or break a shipment & should handle our packages with care, they probably aren't going to!! so the obvious low hanging fruit here is to provide better packing materials and boxes. Lonnie & Emo can work on the shippers!!!!

True...but it is dissappointing when I pay over $180 to ship something, the boxes are marked as fragile, the shipper makes special notes on the delivery papers that the contents are fragile, and when I pay $8 extra for "insurance" just in case they don't follow the subtle hints to be careful because the contents are fragile and when they damage the shipment anyway - then...they give me the runaround in filing a claim.
It makes me wonder what I am actually paying for...shipping or near-guaranteed carelessness.
But...better boxes are a start...just no guarantee against incompetent shippers who let a cardboard package get soaking wet and drop it, too.

That's why I always buy insurance (which is really just another income stream for the shippers). I've shipped 100s of packages with UPS and I have had to file about 5 claims with them. Always got paid without too much hassle. I guess they expect it but their insurance collections vs. payouts=big profits for them!!! ;D I know they are careless and I guess the only way to hurt them is taking business somewhere else. It's almost a silent monopoly!!!
