So, many of you already know that I am currently recovering from surgery and do not currently have the use of my left arm and am in constant pain.
Also, I mentioned elsewhere that I was downsizing and recently sold my XPA-3 and was replacing it with the new UPA-500, but had to wait to swap out the units due to not being able to use my arm.
Sooooooo fast forward to yesterday. I was blessed to have forum member/friend, Carl, "carlp336" show up at my doorstep to help me out! He even brought a growler of an IPA he just picked up from the Carolina Brewery! What a guy! Mind you, he lives more than 2 hrs. away.
He promptly boxed up the XPA-3 and un-boxed the UPA-500 and hooked it up for me. He also brought a tube dac for me to check out and introduced me to some awesome music I had never heard before. We continued to rock out for the next 2+ hours.
Bottom line, what an amazing place this is, where on-line friendships can grow into full fledged friendships. I have been stuck on the couch since July 13th and I sooo needed to have some fun and Carl showing up, helping me out and rocking out, while sharing some brews together is exactly what I needed.
Thanks again Carl and thanks to the forum!
Cheers everyone and remember to pay it forward.
Derek

Props to you both! Darsky and I talked about starting a local EMo fan club, been so busy I have three diy projects spread out all on my basement floor. My poor while had to it her foot down when she couldn't fold the laundry.
I am a big believer in pay it forward...

Great story.
Nice gesture Carl! It's refreshing to see that good deeds are alive and well these days.
Glad you had your spirits (and that XPA-3 beast) lifted Derek.
...So what new music did you experience? ...And how good was that brew? ...And how does the UPA-500 sound? ;D

A very nice deed there Carl.We hear so much negativity on the news and even in a few of the treads here that it is really nice to read something positive instead.

Been enjoying Dream Theater's "Score." So far, it's been rocking the house and hasn't missed a beat. SQ is fantastic!Last night:Beverage of choice: "Flagship India Pale Ale Originally, this intensely hopped ale was brewed in the 18th century to survive the long sea journey from the cooler breweries in England, around the Cape of Africa to India where the temperatures were too warm to brew. This beer has a unique floral aroma from the generous addition of Cascade hops to the fermenter in a procedure known as dry hopping. GOLD Medal 2006 Great American Beer Festival, English-style IPA" Mainly focused on the following: www.amazon.com/Bristle-Ridge-Chuck-Ragan-Austin/dp/B0032FQ0LI/ref=ntt_mus_ep_dpi_1and... I loved this! Made it feel like a Friday night out. Carl: You rock, man. Props to you for expending your own resources to help someone in need. Derek:Thank you for sharing the story with us. It sounds like you both had a great evening. Things like that can lift your spirit in the midst of a difficult day. Oh yeah, that UPA-500 is pretty sweet, ain't it? ;D

Oh yeah, that UPA-500 is pretty sweet, ain't it? ;D You got that right! It's cranking away as we speak. Barely warm. It would take quite a bit for that fan to kick in. I am going to retract my "downsizing" comment I made earlier. It may be smaller and less expensive, but for my needs, it's one hell of a good amp for the money. Very natural sounding too. FYI: I have my UPA-2 driving my mains. I am very, very pleased!

I'm sure that this is not the first and last class act but I would like to suggest an annual "Carl award ". Awarded at emofest with contributions from forum members for a gift card for Emotiva products. Starting in 2013. $25 from ottaone. Nomination and selection TBD.
