I've had some time to review both of these speakers with multiple movies and music (well over 20 hours on each). Here is a rundown of my setup. Yamaha RX-V667 Emotiva UPA-500 Rears Mirage OS-3 Sub Custom 10cu ft ported 15" Adire Brahma The XRC speakers are being used as L C R for the front sound stage. First off the size difference is huge, the 6.2 dwarfs the 5.2 in terms of cabinet size and weight. I used my custom Blu-ray demo disk to try out 5.1 music and movies without the use of my sub to pick out the fine differences. The lows on the 6.2 are much more extended than the 5.2, but I couldn't help but find they seemed less tight at the 5.2s sealed design. During action scenes non vocal parts felt more real and immersed me into the movie. The vocals were close but the 6.2s had a slight edge with deep male voices. Onto music, the 6.2 vocals didn't feel as clear as the 5.2, but the male vocals had depth. The difference was so slight I wouldn't put my decision on it and to the average listener stopping over to watch a movie they would never be able to tell. If you're strapped for space or have a smaller listening area the 5.2s would be a best bet as they are compact and can blend in a home theater setup with ease. The 6.2 will take up a lot of space, and need strong stands (mine can barely hold them steady despite being all steel), but you will love the sound they produce.

Nice write-up, thanks! I'm kinda wondering why you have the 6.2s laying sideways on stands? Weren't they designed to be floor-standers? And I have to think the bass response would even more signifcant by having them placed that way...

Have you made up your mind which XRC you will be keeping? What is your basis for the decision? You may need a couple of additional weeks to fully break-in the speakers. The sonic signature may change during the break-in and might influence your choice.
I am curious how the Mirage rears blend with the XRC's sonic signature. Have you considered using the XRS-4.1 surrounds? These should be a perfect match to the XRCs. Let us know what you find out as time passes and you experience with the different speakers solidifies. Enjoy your new toys.

The stands allow me keep the tweeters at ear level, and the one woofer above ear level which I found great for movies and allowing the sound stage to be more full during action. Enjoy your new toys. I kept the 6.2s after justifying the space. The 5.2s were a step up from my Mirage OS3s, but the 6.2s were just another big step up. The 5.2s opened up and changed a little with my time using them, but the 6.2s still need more time. The difference in bass is night and day when the main sub is off. I have found myself watching a lot more TV without the sub on since the bass provided seems just right. I will most likely order the 4.1 surrounds this week, although the Mirage do an amazing job at filling the room with ambient sound. I had them in 7.1 but took the 2 rears down since they all blended in so much. They are brighter than Emotiva, but nothing like Klipsch bright.
