I've been buying a lot of movies this year, but I have a hard time watching them more than once - twice maybe but not always. So am I alone?

I quit buying movies because I too only watch them once or twice. Just rent them now

I have about 1,400 movies. Some of them I watch repeatedly. Some, get sold or traded in for new movies.

I have a lot of movies that are still in the plastic. A few from when I bought my first Blu-ray player a few years ago.

How many times I watch a movie is really dependent on the movie.Sometimes when it turned out to not be very good I'll just watch it the once and then get rid of it but if it was good I'll keep it around for repeat viewings. I usually don't do multiple viewings close together though unless the repeat is to share with a friend.

I always rent first, then if it's good enough I'll buy it and watch it three or more times and keep it.

I've bought a ton of movies and I am worse than you - most of them I haven't even gotten around to watching. I don't have time!!! But I'm getting them in anticipation of having time, although by then maybe Blu Ray and DVD will be obsolete. ;D

DVD's aren't already obsolete?

DVD's aren't already obsolete? Well I meant to the point in which you can't even connect them to anything to watch anymore. ;D I will buy DVD's when the movie doesn't have video/audio that warrants upgrading to Blu Ray - although these days I find many Blu Ray releases cost less than the DVD version.

I rarely buy movies. The ones I do purchase must have a certain "X-Factor" to them, something special that fits my requirements. Of course, they also must have a high replayability factor. I probably see an average of 8 films per year in the theater, mostly the blockbusters. If it's good enough, I might buy it. For example, I watched The Avengers 3 times in the theater, and then promptly preordered the Blu-Ray/DVD set. That's one I want to own.
I own less than 25 individual discs. Excluding those, I have a small collection of full sets like Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, The Mentalist, Lord of the Rings, etc., plus a handful of concert DVDs.
Most of my content comes via Netflix discs or streaming (90%/10% respectively). The subscription services provides a greater selection with next day shipping. If I want to see a movie again, I just add it to the queue. I know some folks who have enormous movie collections. They collect for the sake of collecting. One person told me she never expects to watch some of them ever again. To me, that is a complete waste. Why purchase a movie you're unsure about just because it's new?

It really depends upon the movie. When I was a kid, I saw 2001:A SPace Odyssey at least 10 times. Same for A Clockwork Orange and Apocalypse Now. And I purchased the extended editions of the Lord Of The Rings Trilogy because I *knew* that it was one I would want to see many times. Same thing with Avatar and Gladiator. However, *most* movies I will watch only once or twice.

Not if you have a player like the Oppo 93/95 that does a *superb* job of upscaling. Seriously, DVDs look sooo good thru those units that I really don't feel much need to pursue BluRay editions of my favorite DVDs. My Oppo 93 has given new life to my DVD collection...

I watch comedies multiple times and buy all the time. The Clint Eastwood westerns and such get watched multiple times, as do the epics. The ones that tend to be one and done would be like "Unbreakable", "6th Sense" type of films. Some films I glean a little more from multiple watches. I am about to hook up the streaming capability for the first time in terms of movies and I agree that the digital catalog is the way of the future. I am just a little slow in getting there.

I'm fascinated by the shiny discs. I play them over & over again. I also don't have a lot of time to watch movies so it might take as much as 3 settings to finish watching a movie. It took me 3 separate efforts to complete Avatar and Watchmen. I also love westerns. I must have seen For A Few Dollars More over 20 times and counting. I'm planning to subscribe to Netflix soon but that won't likely stop me collecting westerns.

For me it depends on the movie. Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein? More than 2000 times each. Others - most 3 or more. But, I do have some that are still in the wrapper...

I can see re-watching comedies for sure, but I can't re-watch movies with complex plots because I already know the end :-)
I don't have a lot of movies, maybe 100 or so, but it's a fair amount of money. BB wants $30+ for the the 3 copy deal which is useless to me. If the were priced more like CD's I'd be inclined to buy more.
I don't buy DVD's because you don't get the new codecs like DTS MA or Dolby HD with a DVD do you?
That whole point of spending all this money on my theater was for the best sound :-)

I watch movies for fun and relaxation. I don't give a care for acting skills or plots. I just like to be entertained and that the good triumph over the bad. I can't do critical listening watching movies. For me, its action, laughter, special effects and color accuracy. This means that I can repeat watching a movie indefinitely ;D

I can't count how many times I've watched certain blu-ray movies, but for the most part 3 or 4 times is average for a movie in my library. My most favorite movie, "The Hunt For Red October" I've watched countless times and even though I know the ending, the plot/storyline/cast members make this movie just as exciting as the first time watching.
