I have a question about my umc-1, I'm using nothing but hdmi cables for my sony blue ray and my cable hi-deff box but, the umc-1 is saying it is receiving pcm 2 channel signal not 5.1 etc. I checked my settings on the sony blue ray player and my setup selections seem to be correct. The cables have all the right specs any ideas, maybe I'm overlooking something.

What signal is indicated being received from the cable box?
In your Sony BR setup, you should likely have an option under audio output for Bitstream or PCM. Set it to Bitstream.

What is your UMC-1 set to? What's coming from your cable box is likely a matrixed 2-channel signal that requires the UMC-1 to decode.

My Sony BluRays have some strange naming on their setups that don't really make sense. It took me a while to figure out, but if I recall - the one that made the difference and sent more than PCM to my UMC-1 was the "BD Audio Mix". It needed to be set to Off, if I recall. Otherwise, I got PCM.
Then of course, on certain BluRays, the default audio is not the best audio so I have to toggle the audio setting once the Blu Ray starts.
