My XPA 2 makes clicking noise when I either play music or movies. Clicking noise does not happen all the time though, may a few times an hour.
Is it normal or not?

It doesn't make sense to me that some do and some do not. Same amps and parts, why some do and some don't? Just wondering.

I have noticed the same with the XPA-2. The XPA-5 I have doesn't do this. Not sure how the heatsinks are secured, but maybe not allowing sufficient room for expansion/contraction?

Is your xpa 2 run warmer than your xpa 5?

Yes. The amp boards are a completely different design.

There was a thread suggesting to loosen the heatsink screws a 1/4 or 1/2 a turn on the under-plate of the amp...this should release the tension enough to let the metal creep without grab and release (similar to earthquakes) as they will expand and contract at different rates.

The manual mentions this occasional clicking noise as well. It is perfectly normal. my XPA-2 does the same thing.

You can reduce the noise level of the thermal expansion/contraction by decoupling the chassis from the shelf it is sitting on. It may reduce the clicking noise level enough that you are no longer aware of it. Sometimes moving the amp to a different shelf will be all that is needed. Good luck.
