While SACD is superior to CDs, how many people are using them? There's still not a strong offering in that format to warrant it, IMO. Maybe a BD-A interface of some sort, but all my BD-A disc have some sort of video menu that would be difficult to navigate without a monitor of some sort. Frankly, I think Oppo has this segment (mutichannel special sourced DVD/SACD) of the market covered. Emotiva's move to develop a music server would be a better focus.

I agree on cd alone the oppo 83/93 are formidable for a comparative price, let alone the 95, add new models with sacd/dvd-a/3d/2d-3d then a start cd player just doesn't cut the current market mustard, especially as some people have asked for a changer that would erode any possible advantage o pure cd playback. The Oppo's are just too good with every format

I have thought about upgrading to an Oppo 95/105 (though today's ERC-2 purchase just put that thought into question) as people seem to think it is better than the ERC-2. It will be interesting to see if a new Emo cd player can close the gap or even surpass the Oppo.
I'm neutral on SACD support. Oppo already does it. What I would like to see is a balls to the wall, go head to head with everyone out there player. The market probably doesn't justify it, but that's the ideal for me. I want my next cd player to be the last one I buy (and not just because digital files are replacing optical discs).

The 2 sounds better than the 1, and I was able to sell the 1 for a nominal loss. If the 3 becomes available I sure will go for it.

I love my Emo gear, but... Considering the ERC-2's price point, I don't think Emotiva could/would introduce a multi function player to compete with Oppo, IMHO.

Emotiva should stick with what they're good at. Oppo owns the market for high quality BluRay players. To me it makes no sense to tackle that market.

yup oppo does have the single disc market sown up pretty much though since there isn't a market yet for a multi disc for BD there needs to be 1 in the 5-6 disc market...

Changers=more moving parts to fail over time. It also creates more mechanical noise/vibrations inside the unit...not sure how much of an impact this would have on the sound, but it is a consideration, none-the-less. Just my thought...

The 1st CD player I owned was a Sony 5 disc carousel CDPC75ES. It lasted for 14 years. It is the best (most features) CD player I have ever owned with built in DSP for various music halls and tone controls. It displayed disc time or time remaining and could be daisy chained with other Sony CDP. This was great for 1990 technology but not for today. I still believe that Emo should consider a high-end blu ray player of the oppo 93/103 class, with 5T of storage capacity to which you can directly rip & categorize CDs, DVDs, BRs and hi-res music files. In that case, they could have a joint development with Oppo with Emo just adding the storage to current Oppo players

1 disc works great for some people when you get into watching tv series and so forth 1 disc options become *bleep* annoying.. imagine going through 5k in discs through 1 machine..
sometimes multi disc option is better...
5-10 terrabyte works to a point, though to be honest i'd be looking for something that can scalable past 10 hard drives...
funny enough I own a 5-disc sony dvd player as well as the onkyo 6-disc 704..
I still use them dvd playback, I wouldn't mind owning a BD player, in the 5-6 disc range...
to be honest with my disc collection I really should start looking to 400disc options though I'd be stuffed paying $1,500 a unit for them considering i need 10-30 of them..
though as an option for present use for right price either a cart or carousel type 5-6 disc bd changer with 4-8k support would be great

Multi-disc or not, Big Dan was pretty emphatic at Emofest that they are not considering a BluRay.

I have a CD changer in a box I took out of service a couple of years ago. Sony 601ES, manufactured 1993. As a transport, it worked pretty good. The analog outs and DAC were outdated. Some of the older Japanese produced components were very well made. There are businesses which will upgrade and modify the internal parts to make them competitive with current production models. One man's junk is another man's treasure.

There is nothing wrong with a CD changer. It is another audiophile elitism that has nothing to do with performance. I have heard single disc players that have noisier drawer mechanisms than their changer counterparts. The important thing is that it plays back redbook CDs perfectly. And that both types have done with aplomb ;D

I have never thought much about Music Servers, so I'm very lacking in knowledge here. But, it would seem to me that the music servers that I have read upon, only store and distribute music. They seem to be a bit pricey too, but I know that Emotiva can overcome that handily. If my thinking is current, then I think that Emo should consider going beyond the current offers of "me too" players and offer video storage and multi-zone distributions also. That would give them more market appeal. If I'm wrong, please note that I have already plead ignorance ;D

You can rip most formats into its library but I'm sure Blu-ray will get harder. Also being on the network it's 'zone' independent and can be accessed from anywhere.
