Dear Friends
Owning for almost 3 years of a UPA-2 now I see a UPA-200 on the line up...but see no real diferences between them? despite a diferent internal layout...
Actually is there a sound diference in them? the specs seems the same...

The upgrade to the upa-2 is not the upa-200, it is the xpa-200 which is actually the upa-2 upgraded. The xpa-100 is the upa-1 rebadged and upgraded. The upa-200 has a single amp module compared to 2 but it can produce higher power output @ 4 ohms and has a shorter signal path. The upa-2 was rated unweighted in SNR while the upa-200 is a-weighted. To get a realistic unweighted SNR you substract about 10 db from the a-weighted.

So xpa-200 should produce about 125 Watts per channel?

Nobody knows. But I have to assume at least that much in 8 ohm mode if it is to be considered over the upa-200.

the xpa-100 and xpa-200 have not been released yet. Yes, I was surprised when I saw that the upa-200 appeared to outperform the upa-2 in 4 ohm power and they told us that the xpa-200 is really the UPA-2 rebadged and "upgraded". I wonder what the xpa-200 will be like.

Well if emotiva follows the same line of thinking, the XPA-200 on the outside will look exactly the same as the XPA-2, only changing the 2 for 200, like they did on the UPA-2, now how much it will cost? probably around the same as the replaced models? Here the 8ohm power speakers is the most common, so for most of us the power at 8ohm is what will count...and for that seems to be the same...

i say there is no difference in SQ at all. Its just a manufacturer recreating models to keep people interested. Every manufacturer does something similar or the brand goes stale.....

I was told that the UPA-200 is not the replacement for the UPA-2, but the XPA-200... Nevertheless and for me seems that the UPA-200 and the UPA-2 are the same, only the encrease in the power at 4ohms, and a different internal layout and the inclusion of 2 small fans, which in the silence of the night will probably make some noise???

It would be nice if somebody that owned both let us know what they thought. However, I don't see most people buying both unless they have some sort of second setup in their house and wanted to use a second u-series amp.

Well if emotiva follows the same line of thinking, the XPA-200 on the outside will look exactly the same as the XPA-2, only changing the 2 for 200, like they did on the UPA-2... We may get a full-height XPA chassis, but perhaps not. The UPA-1/2 models were approximately 2RU high. Since the upcoming XPA-100/200 will replace these two amplifiers, they may keep the actual chassis and just change the innards. Personally, I'd prefer the ~2RU size over the taller XPA series. I was told that the UPA-200 is not the replacement for the UPA-2, but the XPA-200... Correct. The XPA-200 is the replacement for the UPA-2, whereas the UPA-200 is part of the redesigned and reimagined Ultra series. ...the inclusion of 2 small fans, which in the silence of the night will probably make some noise??? I can assure you the fans do not run 24/7. The amp relies on traditional convection in most cases, it's only when you really push the amplifier that the fans are called into action. With that said, I'm curious if the new XPA-100/200 amplifiers will be outfitted with cooling fans. My gut tells me probably not...but we'll see. In any case, Cathy said (in the last podcast) the XPA-100/200 amps would be available for sale in mid-September. If everything checks out, I planning to be one of the first customers in line for the XPA-200. ;D

One thing is sure...for us foreign countries final prices are too high, so emotiva is at the same prices of gear we see on the stores with well known brands...

I did not know that the XPA 200 was to be a replacement for the UPA-2 as the XPA-100 is a replacement for the UPA-1. Specs wise, the UPA-200 seems to the perfect replacement for the UPA-2, (while the XPA-200 will be a new product without a predecessor) unlike the UPA-1 and XPA-100. The UPA-1 was more like a mini XPA-1 and did not, IMHO, belong in the UPA line.
