Newbie with UMC-1 needs help

Hi folks...I`m a first timer and just got my UMC-1 today.I can`t get my WD media player to work via HDMI (probably a handshake issue) Anybody know if WD Live media player works via HDMI?....Have also tried media player HDMI direct to tv and get a picture,.. but can`t seem to get sound from media player optical out to UMC-1. I`m using the 7.1 output to my amp. Can anybody help?...Thanks

First question, have you gotten any sound from the UMC-1 yet, at all? For example, the tuner?

Have now got picture and sound using HDMI from WD media player to TV for picture, and optical out from WD media player to aux5 via optical..Haven`t tried the tuner yet..Still would like to know if anyone is using WD Live media player hdmi out to hdmi in on the UMC-1 and it works?

It sounds like it's working for you now. Is there a problem?

Sorry, I'm not a WD user, I build my own HTPC's, usually with some version of XBMC and some version of Linux.

Thanks for your replies Bill....have sound etc for cable,dvd and WD.....Hope someone can tell me if hdmi works or not for WD live media player.

Running the HDMI directly to the TV was a good test, if you can't get sound there or with the UMC via HDMI I think that tells you it's the WD (or its config), does the manual show it hooking up with a single HDMI? (you'd expect it would) How about the WD forum?

Problem solved for the time being....Switched the WD to dvd and the dvd to sat. Funny, wouldn`t work the other way around . Thanks for the help...
