Those thinking if buying from Emotiva but are worried about shipping from them to Canada. I ordered an XPA-5 last week it came FedEx Ground, cost of mp $899 total shipped to my door $1126. Not bad for a 85lb package it arrived in 4 days they, Emotiva pack it very well double boxed with a think layer of foam surrounding the amp. I'm a happy camper

Hmm... I wonder if a 2 hour drive to Niagra Falls (and back) is worth saving $227. Probably not given you'd have to stay >48 hours to get your $800 duty exemption.

Delivered to Australia is $1120. Not bad at all.
If the item is less than $1000 we don't pay tax or duty.
Dave.

Freight was about $90. The rest was Canadian import/gst taxes. /b

When I bought my XPA-5 I had it shipped to Sumas, Wa which is about a 1/2 hour from where I live. I went down and picked it up, declared it at the Border, all I had to pay was Tax (12%) so my total cost was $1006.

Now here's my other experience but NOT with Emotiva.. I was looking to buy a HSU VTF-15H Subwoofer..it weighs 100lbs Well I can tell you I would never order anything from them Ever.. They want to charge me $317.74 just for shipping and Brokerage fee's.. Then I still have to pay taxes, Duties and customs.. Emotiva only charged $227 Total for Eveything Door to Door..and the amp weighs 85lbs shipped.. I guess they do not want Canadian business

i got all my emotiva gear delivered to my door. Totally hassle free and very fast shipping. Thought about driving to the border and save the freight and brokerage, but the items were too heavy and boxes big to fit in my car. At the end i'm a happy camper, enjoying the music every moment from these wonderful systems.

I f you get caught doing that you WILL have a very very bad day to remember. I've tried something like that before....lol

Definitely not worth the risk. You'd probably have more bad time than one day. Crossing international borders is serious business. The Hammer

I guess it totally depends on exactly were you live. If your close to a border crossing and you can go when traffic isn't a 2 hour wait time it's usually worth it to go get it in the US at a parcel drop store. If you're like me and Live on Vancouver Island, it's not worth it in the slightest to go get it if that's the only reason your going. I usually just wait until I have a reason to go to the US and then order things ahead of time to arrive before I go. I have ordered an XPA-5 shipped to my door in Canada. In reality it adds about $150 to the total, shipping and duties. But Fedex does a great job getting it to you quickly. Only took 5 days to the West Coast.

Well, here is what I'd do. I'd put a big old box in my car and then place a cheap receiver in it. Then I'd drive into the US. If they want to inspect the box, it's okay with me. Then, I'd pickup my Emotiva product and pitch the big old box and the cheesy receiver. Then I'd drive back into Canada with my Emotiva product and to hell with their silly import duties and such...

And you'll probably get away with it. But if they do catch you, they will fine you and seize the goods, perhaps seize the car, perhaps jail you, and certainly put you on border watch, you so get taken aside and searched very time you try to cross.
At the border is the one place where your are considered guilty, until proven innocent. If you can't produce the invoices, you're phucked...

I know nothing about Canada and declaring things, but could you just drive back in with it without "declaring" it? That is called smuggling and it is a crime. Go google it to find out more.

Who cares, why should Americans get it much cheaper than other countries.. I say beat the system anyway you can.. It's such an unfair world especially when it comes to money ie. the financial world
