Been out of the loop for a while on thing and am trying to find a new reciever. Was looking a the anthem 500 but, with truck insurance and christmas coming soon I dont think itd be a smart move Anyhow Im considering 500-750 ( maybe 1,000) for a new reciever. Id like 7.1, amp pre outs so I can use my XPA 2 and 5. 3-4 HDMI ins, and and 2 outs would be nice so the TV and the projector dont need to swap the one output all the time but it is not necsessary. Obviously power doesnt matter with the amps. Also, Im not really partial to brands. Thanks!

If you already have two power amp, why would you buy a receiver? Don't you think it's a better idea to buy a pre/pro? The next generation of UMC-200 and UMC-500 are very interesting and in your budget; 699$ and 999$ respectively. Last year I purchased an Anthem MRX-700 and this summer I replaced it for a UMC-1 and I can tell you IMO the sound quality of the UMC-1 is far ahead better. Here you have all the detail: emotivalounge.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=updates&action=display&thread=25877

Agreed, the new UMC's would be nice, but what's your timeline? They'll likely be a few more months. You could pickup a UMC-1 with upgrade card in the mean time. The dual HDMI though you'd have to handle with a splitter which can be problematic depending on the two systems.

Exactly. You need a pre/pro, you don't need a receiver.

A few months ago when the UMC 1 was on for 499 i asked for a landed quote and it was something like $200 to ship here which was more then either amp. Which didnt make sense, so I said "eff that" and put the money elsewhere.
I know this is an emo board, and I love my amps but after knowing what went on with the umc 1 im hesitent towards emo pros. Last thing any guy wants is a mad wife because something doesnt work we spent $ on, lol.

While I have issues with my Dish 722 DVR and the UMC-1 I knew that going in - and they aren't fatal. The point of getting the UMC-1 now is to have something to use, and get the upgrade card; it will be good with all the new models, UMC, XMC, RMC. You can even find used or Pre-owned with card for less than $499. But $200 shipping may give pause.
I assume then you can get mainstream receivers locally? I've always liked Marantz and Onkyo but don't know the models in that price range.

I don't understand, I'm in a situation similar of you are, I'm living near Montreal QC, and here is the quote a received from Emo for my UMC-1 purchasing: UMC-1 499$ + Canadian duties 32.44$ + brokerage fees 21.00$ + Canadian tax 27.62$ + Freight 35.45$ = for a total of 615.51$... it is 115.51$ adding for freight, duties, tax and broker Not bad for door to door international delivery.

To be clear, I'm not suggesting to you of purchase a UMC-1 but keep an eye and an option on the next generation with UMC-200 and UMC-500.

Yeah Frank as I said the quote I got was more then either amp ( think the amps were 160 and 164) but the UMC is way lighter and a tad smaller.
As for what I have local, think i can pretty well get any supplier, as well as Im close to the border (45 mins away) and Calgary is 3 hours from me.
Edit for spelling damn phone...

Hey frenchie, my landed cost was within $10 of yours landed in Vancouver. Well, It is not so bad, here in Quebec we have to pay 15% of taxes on any purchase, that's mean if I purchase something in a store that cost 499$ I have to add 75$ of taxes. I think that adding 40$ more for an international purchase is a fair trade. Tyler, maybe you must call again Emo for a second quote because they made a mistake the first time...

One thing to consider is that neither of the Emotiva products are going to have an advanced room correction package like Audyssey. Maybe the XMC, if TACT works out for it, but a mid range AVR with pre outs is very popular as a processor.

Tyler, Emotiva has a Sherbourn receiver on Ebay they are clearancing. The seller is jadedesigns (an emotiva company). Brand new with five year warranty for $799 with free shipping. Sherbourn is owned by emotiva. If you are interested, contact them and get a shipping quote, since the free shipping appears to be specific to the US. It should have pre-outs to serve as a pre-pro, or you could with a pre-pro like a UMC-1. Might want to double check with Sherborn for any specific on product use.
