I have stereo balanced xlr inputs on my processor that my ERC-1 is going into now. Would an XDA-1 or the newer XDA-2 bring anything out of my cd's that my current processor (or any other processor for that matter) won't already do itself?

My understanding is that the ERC-1's DAC section is identical to the XDA-1, so they should sound the same. The XDA-2 is supposed to have a superior DACs and should sound better. Why not try one using Emo's 30-day tryout policy and see for yourself?

But the the analog output section of the XDA-1 is a cut abolve that of the ERC-1's. This is why some use the digital output of an ERC-1 to feed an XDA-1.

The XDA 2 will a be nice upgrade to ERC 2 and most CD players under 5 k out there. It's going to have a very nice suffisticated output section and the DAC and the chip are also going to be substantially higher end than most similar products out there. sounded really nice at THE SHOW in LA

So let's say I have an ERC-2 running to my balanced XLR ins on my processor. Say it's an XMC-1 for reference. How would I integrate an XDA-2 into the system? Is there a way to bypass the XMC's DAC?

The ERC would connect to the XDA via a digital connection, ie coax or optical then the XDA would connect to the XMC via RCA interconnects to the analog CD inputs.

But if there's now an XMC-1 in the equation I don't think anyone knows if the XDA-2's DAC's are better.

The XDA-2 also has a good headphone amp... depending on whether you listen to cans and what hp amps you have.
The XDA-2 is supposed to have better DACs than the XMC-1, according to the quality list that Lonnie put forward a while ago. Now, how much better is a different question.
There's also the Pro DAC which is supposed to be even better than the XDA-2, if you're running balanced.

Digital from the ERC-2 to the XDA-1/2 and then balanced out to the processor. Run in some sort of direct/bypass mode.

XDA-1 is gone on the website and we all speculating on XDA-2 spec and what it will bring to the table. The question we all have how much better of a sound XDA-2 to the XDA-1 and if its worth spending money to upgrade. If the answer just marginal and the price of this unit cost let say $500, I would spend my money elsewhere that will give me a big boost in SQ. If the difference is night and day, I will place my order ASAP.
