My XPA-2 arrived today. She looks gorgeous sitting next to her twin sisters, my XPA-5's. Have already played with it and the sound is amazing. I just bought my Def Tech BP 8080's 2 weeks ago and with this amp, they sound even better. Attachments:

Looks good, the Onkyo's you're prepro?, nice amp symmetry :~) So how do you use 12 channels of amplification?

Yes, I use my Onkyo as my pre/pro. I am in the market for a new HT AVR. I am looking into getting the Denon 4520 when it comes out. That is where the 11 channels will come into play. Will have 1 channel that is not used.

Yes geebo, it is. And I didn't know the blue lights on the front moved until I turned it up. It's pretty cool. I sent my wife a text letting her know that when she watches tv or listens to music, the lights will move, that's normal. If I didn't tell her she would be going nuts thinking she broke the amp. The good thing is, she loves HT and music as much as I do, it was actually her idea for me to get the amp now. I was going to wait till christmas. I'm glad I didn't wait.

Got mine at Emofest and was surprised at the difference it made compared to the XPA-5 which ain't no slouch. I can only imagine how nice two XPA-1s would be. ;D

No, the XPA-5's are no sluch at all and they did a great job powering my Def Tech 8080's, but the XPA-2, I can tell the sound is a little clearer and the lows are really hittin hard.

With it powering my Canton Vento 890.2 DCs, once I had seen the blue lights on it jump up to 10 on the scale of 12, that's when I started to realize the XPA-2 is just that... the Dirty Harry among power amps.

I do know the amps will stay on the bottom of the AV rack.

There is nothing above the tv. Would have to build the shelf for it. I built the entertainment center so it shouldn't be a problem. Two questions...Would I just use a Y-splitter for the second center and does it matter the the 2 center speakers I have are both Def Tech but one has built in amp for the sub and the other does not.

For the first, yes a splitter from of the center channel out and into the two center amp channels. Not quite sure what you mean by one speaker has a built in amp? I use a double center from a single amp channel into identical speakers, in your case you have an extra amp channel and a double center was just a suggestion for using it. The reason I like one above and one below is that the phantom image is then in the center of the screen, but that will only work right with identical speakers, and not with every seating arrangement. It kind of simulates a transparent screen with a speaker behind it.

The center channel I use now is a Def Tech 8080 and it has a builtin amp for the sub woofers. My other center is a Def Tech2002 and it does not have any subs in it at all. Would they both work together? When I had the 2002 hooked up by itself I had all the low signals sent to the subs.

So not really knowing the speakers I'll generalize that if they sound similar they should work. That they're from the same vendor is a good start, if the main difference is the sub amp that shouldn't make much difference. Another point I mentioned is distance, what will the distance be from each speaker to your primary listening position. If one distance is significantly shorter the sound will appear to come from that speaker, and the other speaker may introduce more coloration due to phase interference. I'd say just try it but I know you have to build a shelf to do that. I know, hook up the second speaker and have your wife or girlfriend hold it over her head and give it a listen.
