Ordered some last night from ATS to put behind my fronts. I went with the 2" because the 4" didn't pass WAF. I plan on adding some 4" as bass traps to the rear of the room.

The ATS panels are fantastic. Great folks to do business with. My wife and I decorated mine with a couple of wood "Notes" from Hobby Lobby. $5.00 upgrade.... You'll be pleased! Fly Attachments:

Well? Let's hear your impressions on the differences they've made!

I'll let you know after this weekend when I get some time with them. Everyone's, the babies, in bed. I'm hoping they help with the echoing I get at louder volumes but more may be needed for that.

Very interesting room pics. I know those OMD-28s are huge, but they look tiny in that pic. How do you like your Mirage speakers for home theater?

I am 6'4" and took the pics standing up so that may make them look smaller. The panels behind them are 48" tall for reference. I love the Mirages. Those are my 3rd set starting with the OS3 FS and then the OMD 15 and then the OMD 28.

The 3 you got so far will definitely help, but you will really notice a difference with the thicker/bass trap ones installed into your room also. And don't forget a couple on the side walls and/or the ceiling if feasible!

Another suggestion (after looking at your photos again) is you'd probably benefit from some carpet right in front of your floorstanders - negate that first reflection off the hard wood floor.
I see you've got a throw rug further into the room, but more absorption right in front of those speakers would also cut down on those 'echoing' sounds you're reporting.
Getting rid of those "first reflections" (whether off of the floor or sidewalls) will work wonders by themselves!

When I look at those pictures I see a ton of absorbion. The carpet and furnature should be doing a lot more then it is. Try getting those speakers off the hardwood. Use pillows or dense foam to see if decoupling could do you some good.
sent from my phone. sorry for the short response. Tony

I have a room full of ATS stuff. Great company to deal with. I highly recommend them to everyone in need for decently priced panels.

Teach me something here. Are acoustic panels best placed behind the speakers? Considering there are 4 walls in a room plus the ceiling where the panels could be put is there an order of placement if you couldn't get all the panels you needed at one time?

Absorbtion absorbs sound energy and converts to heat (very little). Diffusion breaks waves up at frequencies. Think of diffusion as a eq and absorbtion as a high pass filter. You can target areas with diffusion. Absorbtion works on all frequencies. The effectivness decreases the lower the freq. As far as sound, diffusion would help tame frequencies without deadening the sound. You start with absorbtion to get the room close to where you want it and follow with diffusion to fine tune (if needed at all).

Corners, then first reflections on side walls, then rear walls Finally tackeling the front wall and ceiling. Things that change this model. Really reflective floors -- then carpet comes first speakers that have multi directional speakers -- Behind the speakers If you are right up against a wall for your seating. -- rear absorbtion

The best method is to call ATS and let them know what you are trying to acheive. Or make a drawing of the room and send it to them for recommendations.
Also remember that furnature usually is absorbtion. Things on the walls and plants and other decor acts as diffusion. You can mimic absorbtion with a heavy blanket and you can mimic diffusion with a large plant. (both are less affective then the real thing but will let you know if your money will yeild improvments.

Thanks, ansat So once you've tamed the room somewhat with absorption, you then direct reflection to where you want/need it?(sounds kinda Bose-ish ) jk I was under the impression that all/most reflection was undesirable; wrong? g
