In my experience, placing absorbtion directly behind the speakers is a no-no. It takes away to much energy and make the music sound dull, with an unresponsive bass. For first reflectionpoints I prefer to diffuse and then absorb behind the listening position.
But then I have only been in the Hi-Fi business 15 years, so what do I know, right.

I also don't like panels right behind the speakers. Though if they are sealed, or front ported, it much less of a problem.

The reason i went this way is because the omnipolar design of the Mirage speakers. I read a couple of different places that if the speakers are within 4 to 6 feet of a wall then panels would help keep the reflections down or help with the echo or ringing that I was getting. It seems to have helped that but a couple on the ceiling may help as well.

You would have put some sort of hole in the wall with a screw, but not necessarily drill a large hole. It would be very easy to repair with some spackle and paint if you ever took it down. www.atsacoustics.com/cat--Accessories--103.html

GIK panels go up with wall picture hangers or if on the ceiling it is easy to make some french cleats. 242s are 9 lbs each, 244s are 14 lbs each.
