My Dac1 is stuck in " 0db fixed output" and I can't get it out. I am unable to return to "variable volume" or anything other then " 0db fixed output ". Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Did you try turning it off and back on?

Is the preamp section is as good as xsp-1? In the listening tests that I have done, I cannot tell a difference between the DC-1 as a preamp and the DC-1 ran through the XSP-1. If it were a blind test, I know I would fail miserably.

Playing from a network source or local disk? Do you have those problems playing to other sound cards? If you set JRMC to force the bit rate down, does the problem persist? (Also, have you turned off the event based driver setting)

i understand your excitement. really, i do. i assume you got your dc-1. congrats! generally i would put issues like your 'dropouts' on the pc hard/ software side. i never had any issue at all. but since there are many hard and software config possibilities i suggest you get a bit more into detail with you system used. i think you can let out the post-dc-1 setup. details for the pre-dc-1 like os, hardware, progs would help to steer you in the right direction.
cheers, L

playing flac files in JRiver, running WASAPI Direct connection,,No event, why force the bit rate down? There is a buffer that you can increase that should help like to around 2000ms. Also try whatever WASAPI mode that you are not using. You should know that with the outcome of the two wasapi modes I've found the WASAPI implementation not very stable/reliable in some players. (I haven't tried Jriver). For instance it used to be that whenever WASAPI was engaged you could be assured of an uninterrupted bitstream no matter if a windows sound played or anything. Everything else would be muted and not processed through. Now I have wasapi engaging and disengaging when a different sound gets played, sometimes the playback would simply stop. In mediamonkey I had issues with stuttering. Etc. I used Foobar and its implementation worked on my computers. And I know plenty of people using WASAPI jriver with no issues. But I thought I would throw it in there. You can try turning off the windows sounds (control panel-> sound->select no sounds. See if that helps.

still think more info would be helpful. obviously it is jriver 17, but on what (yeah i know ->wasapi = win...which one?) how do you connect it? usb/ tos..... out of the blue i recommend also to ignore the emotiva drivers and d/l the shiit win drivers. after reading about it here and recommending it to some friends running win pc's... it solved issues. but aside that, your cpu, mb, amount of ram, installed an running progs (beside jriver), other hard and software can have a serious influx on your prob. that's why my suggestion before to elaborate a little more on that end. sh*t. even your cable (which connection again!?) might cause the prob. if you use usb it is a diff. story than toslink..... as far as you don't provide more info from your end everybody giving you tips is basically tapping around blind recommending (sure useful) ideas based on there system and experience. as always, best as poss. details you can deliver will give you best poss. answers and solutions. garbulky is on the right track.... if it is actually jriver!?!? anyway, don't get frustrated m8! a solution will come up. if it does anything for you, i was 'f*cking' around with the jriver linux beta for days, til it actually did what i expected. was a combination between linux, hardware and the fact that jriver for linux is still a beta ;( --- the dc-1 was fine all along.

Using USB to DC-1,,cable is only 6ft,USB2.0 cable

Davesci - I'm not sure if it will or won't run but chances are you installed them correctly.
Now....try this. We have to arrive at what is causing the problem. In a method that starts from the most basic and proceeds in a process of adding on a complication one by onbe till we figure out exactly what is causing it. - Turn off WASAPI. (make it regular mode) - Uninstall the DC-1 drivers. - Set the DC-1 to USB 1.1
Now (on these steps. when you encounter a problem this is where you would stop and report if not continue adding on) WASAPI USB 1.1 TEST - Try playing audio no wasapi on regular windows media player or youtube. - Play audio on j-river no wasapi - Enable WASAPI playback. Try again on j-river. Any issues?
Report USB 2 test. - Now set the DC-1 to USB 2 Repeat steps found in WASAPI USB 1.1 If problems happen. Here - Do the instructions I gave before in my previous post(change WASAPI from event to push or push to event which ever one was not selected). INCREASE the buffer.
Report If issues still encountered. Uninstall the DC-1 driver. Change the USB port on the Dell to a completely different one not one right next to it. Install the DC-1 driver. Repeat all the tests from USB 2 onward. Report.

This may help make it easier to trouble shoot. Buy a really cheap ($20-30) USB to SPDIF converter. And use the coax digital output to the DC-1. If there is no more stuttering the issue is with the USB connection and your DC-1.
