Keith, I'm curious, some of the other "leading edge" DACs out there are using 32 bit chips, as I'm sure you're aware. For example, the 32 bit ESS Sabre & the AKM 4399 are very prominent in higher end DACs, and even some mid priced DACs. Is there any advantage to these or is it all just "marketing" and hype? I'm sure you guys took a look at these, and other possible DAC chips as well. pawsman My two cents: they say in real estate, the three most important things are location, location, location.......I think the answer regarding which chipset is the best is........................implementation, implementation, implementation. I stopped valuing specifications or design descriptions in my decision making process years ago............if it sounds better, it is better, regardless of specs or measurements. They hit it out of the park with the DC-1 at $899, but at $699, it must seem insurmountable for the competing DAC companies. I'm still stunned that the price was lowered and I already received the email that a refund check for the difference is coming even though I purchased mine several weeks ago. What a company! |

I wonder what the chances are that Emotiva might release a matching media server?
The DC-1, a media server and a pair of Stealth speakers sure would make for a nice sound system.

I would also like see a fixed output with no volume (preamp) control. If indeed a Reference level DAC debuts, I would guess that it would definitely have a fixed output, as this is already an option in the DC-1's set-up menu. |
