Seperates baby ;D I used to run my RTi12s with a Yamaha RX-V861 and the UMC-1 crushes it. And I would stay away from Yamaha if you are getting a receiver. The Polks are bright speakers and the Yamaha's are on the bright side also, not the best combo. But at $499.99 the UMC-1 is a steal. Better yet you can get a used one with remaining warranty in the 300-325 range ;D

Welcome to the Lounge. Sometimes its more like a madhouse...
You should post your idea of an 'arm and a leg' so we know to stay below that price. ;D
IMO one of the best 'bang for the buck' receivers is the Onkyo NR818. It has Audyssey XT32 - totl for Audyssey. You can pick one up on Amazon for under $800 - or Vanns.com in their clearance section. I'd buy from Vanns over Amazon since you still get the 2 year warranty from Onkyo vs a one year square traders warranty (extra $s) and they don't have a stellar record on coverage.

The UMC-1 is pretty hard to beat for the price and there is the upgrade coupon buying new which makes it all the better. The RTiA9's will sound excellent with the XPA-2 driving them.

Villock is right, it is not good idea to match both gear and speaker that are bright. I have a good result on mine pairing my USP with marantz known to be warm side.

Another vote for a UMC. You've got some great amplification so no need to waste bucks on more amps in a receiver that'll go unused.

Yes the 12's sounded awesome with the UMC and XPA-2/5 when they were in my system. And if you think this may be a way you want to go, I believe that the last batch of UMC-1s are here or on the way so now is the time to get this at this great price and the upgrade card
