XPA 2

I just received my xpa 2 from emotiva. I must say, after ordering it on Sunday, I did not expect to have it by midday Wednesday. My first impression was how beautiful it is. I don't own the correct Allen wrench to install my black trim pieces, but it looks great with silver. I played halo 4 on Xbox 360 as loudly as I could on my Klipsch RF82s, and I got no more than one blinking meter LED. Coupled with my dual Klipsch RW12d subwoofers, I'm thrilled with the sound. The separation of channels on my Shinedown: Anything and Everything DVD is superb. I'm currently watching The Dark Knight on blu ray, and all I can say is "dynamic." Everything I hear is crystal clear using my Onkyo TX NR809 as a pre/pro. I definitely am welcoming my new sound addition with open arms. Previously, the best sound I ever heard at home was from my Harman Kardon AVRs, both a 630 and 7550HD. Unfortunately, both of these had board issues, but I've fallen in love with my system once again with this amplifier. Even highly efficient speakers enjoy a high power ceiling. I look forward to listening to all my media once again with the XPA 2.

I played halo 4 on Xbox 360 as loudly as I could on my Klipsch RF82s, and I got no more than one blinking meter LED. Those Klipsch speakers are 98db efficient. At a volume you cannot stand they probably don't absorb more than 25-50w. The XPA-2 will never do anything more than idle with those speakers. If you hear a slight hiss with no source playing its the sound of the amp and the speakers amplifying the normal sounds of an idle amp. It won't be audible when you are playing music or games. Welcome to Emotiva. Great stuff and a great seller.

It's dead silent when there's dead silence even at high volumes. I was worried about the "hiss" others mentioned, but I'm thrilled with how quiet the amp is. The tx nr809's amp section left a little to be desired. Sadly, it cost the same amount as the holiday sale price of this 300w beast.

To be fair to the NR809 it does things that the XPA-2 cannot do. With the XPA-2 they make a great pair.

I am on the fence with an XPA 2 purchase. I have an XPA 5 right now that is driving my Mirage OMD 15s, C1, and OS3s. Does anyone think this would really improve the sound of the OMD 15s?
I also have two Mirage OC 55s in the ceiling driven by a 100w Onkyo amp. I would love to push out that amp and add some more emotiva gear!

The OMD-15 speakers like a lot of power. Many Lounge members who own that speaker have reported that the XPA-2 really makes them sing. The XPA-2 has great dynamic performance and this is where the OMD-15 take advantage of what the amp has to offer. During high dynamic passages most power amps don't have the headroom to handle the greatly increased demand for more power, so when the XPA-2 is able to fully respond to the demand it makes the speakers sound better than they could when driven by a lesser power amp.
The OMD-15 is also able to use that extra dynamic power without being distressed. It is this synergy of having an amp capable of delivering clean power during high dynamic passages and having a speaker capable of reproducing highly dynamic sound with aplomb.

You may have just convinced me. What really got me thinking was during Star Wars: A New Hope, it seems as if my amp was clipping my front 3 speakers when some of the characters ended sentences with an "s" sound. I am hoping an amp with more power might eliminate that. Has anyone else had a similar problem, upgraded the amp, and the issue was resolved?
