Hi, all - I've been lurking here for a while, and even made a few posts, but now I am an offical Emotiva gear owner!!
Ordered up a new XPA-3 today - might have it in hand by this time next week.
I'm really excited - this is my first external amp; I've been hoping to buy one for a while now; looked at various brands, but settled on Emo for the value-for-money that I feel/hope/believe they bring.
Shout out to Nick at Emotiva who helped me out with this purchase.
I cannot wait for the Fedex truck to arrive!!!

Congrats on the purchase! I know you've been looking for many months. Would love to hear your feedback on how your speakers like the new amp. It's a nice upgrade from your Aventage AVR, and the XPA amps are quite special. Enjoy!

Thanks. I tried chasing after a few on the used market up here, but none worked out for one reason or another. Was "thiiiiiiiiiiiiiis" close to purchasing a not so old UPA-5 - then this sale came on line. Very surprised when I broached the potential purchase of a new "box" with the wife and she was okay with it. Now I just have to get the okay on a new Oppo, a dual SVS subwoofer setup, and maybe an XPA-2 during the next Emotiva sale

I can hardly wait to get it. I agonized between the 3 and the 5 - common sense told me getting the 5 was a smart thing to do, given the small incremental cost for 2 more channels of 200W. But, in the end, the wallet and WAF ruled the day. I'm pretty sure my Yamaha can handle the surrounds and front heights for now. Maybe next year I will go for an XPA-2 to make my 2-channel listening experience better, putting the 3 on the center and surrounds. Or who knows - the possibilities are endless!

Yes, your Yammy can more than handle the 'surrounds duty'. Be sure to report back on your first impressions!

Congrats on your purchase. You won't be sorry! Your Yammy will handle the surrounds. It's what's upfront that counts.

Thanks, everyone. I was hoping I would have it before this coming weekend, but Fedex tracking estimates arrival next Tuesday My plan is to attempt a little bit of critical A/B listening. I'm not skilled at this sort of thing, but basically I want to pick a couple of action movies and some music, listen to it somewhat closely, then hook up the XPA-3 and see if I can discern a difference. Should I re-run the Yamaha's YPAO after connecting the XPA-3?

Yes rerun YPAO, to account for the different gains in the two amplifiers you'll be drawing from if for no other reason - needs to set and adjust for speaker levels, etc. The other adjustments should be similar to what you're already running unless you've changed furniture layouts, or room furnishings.

Seems we ordered our XPA-3's the same day. My first external as well. Have been powering my Maggie's with a Marantz. Anxious to see the difference. Mine arrived quickly since I an near TN. Got it to the home theatre and had to rest...heavy. Then left town for the holiday so am anxious to get back and check it out. Congratulations on your purchase. We probably went through similar thought processes.

Oh, man, it's getting closer! It is in the country and through customs. I think there is a possibility it could get to me by tomorrow. Fingers crossed!! BTW, Happy Turkey Day to all of you in the US. Enjoy your long weekend...of Black Friday deals!

Awesome!! ;D Now comes the fun part of hooking everything up and testing it out. I'll go ahead and put a soft pillow on the floor directly under your jaw.

I did manage to carry the beast down the stairs to the basement last night, but that is as far as I got, unfortunately. When I was getting my basement/room all set up before drywalling, I did have the electrician install 2 x 15amp outlets where my HT gear plugs in, in anticipation of getting an amp. My AVR, BD player, CD player, cable box, etc. are all running through a surge unit. My understanding is that this XPA-3 should run off the other circuit, by itself, and NOT be plugged into any sort of surge protector, power conditioner, etc??

If you have a dedicated circuit, that's ideal.
And that's correct, you want it plugged into the wall.
