Wondering what you guys think about this. I bought the xpa5 and minix. Received them in Tuesday, set up and watched a movie, the next night I played music at -18 and found my right channel midrange driver to be distorting. That speaker is hooked up to the 4th channel. I then noticed when I power my amp on and it goes through the start up procedure it's quiet on all channels but when it hits the 4th channel all speakers hiss. Now I tried with no interconnects hooked and with just one hooked up and 1 speaker hooked up still does it. Now I tried my speaker back On The receiver a same thing speaker distorts. So any chance the amp messed my midrange up? I talked to emo ad they said because I live in Canada I can't get a direct replacement... Not sure how that's fair, but also said techs were gone till Monday so now I have to wait a few more days. Any one know what's up with it?

What speakers do you have and what model is distorting? How old are they? Did you swap speakers for channel 4 on the amp to see if it still hisses on start up?
It definitely could be the amp though.

Yes try swapping cables and speakers and see if the problem repeats. Also your recievers room correction may have jacked up the volumes on that channel causing unintended distortion. Try turning your recievers room correction off and see if the problem repeats.

I tested speaker on receiver and still distorts and it never did it before I added the amp. Speakers are paradigm studio 60 v4. I tested the amp with a known good speaker with 1 interconnect and 1 speaker wire. Does it on any channel when it checks the 4th channel. I know for sure it's the amp. It also does it not hooked up to the receiver

Well becuase i live in canada i cant get a direct replacement. So i talked to a tech and he said ch 4 is faulty and is sending me a new one. Now i have to try and solder myself the speaker terminals on it or pay someone to do it. Emo wont cover any other charges. So i just spent all that money to fix it myself and spend more money on it. yay..

Okay so how loud is this hiss or distortion? IS it a loud bzzzzzz? If so your tweeter may have blown and if the xpa-5 did it, then you have a different course of action you can take. It's not as often that a mid-range goes. Connect a non-distorting speaker onto your channel and se eif it does that. If the non-distorting speaker is fine then it's possible that there is a short or electrical mess up somewhere in the woofer connections.

its def the mid driver. Every speaker makes a hiss sound that can be heard from anywhere because when it goes across the 4th channel, every speaker hiss's. Now as far as the mid driver goes, i took it out and tested in my other speaker and it still distorted. I then tried the good driver in the (lets call it bad speaker) and it played fine. Telling me it was the driver. Now i dropped my studio 60 off at a local paradigm dealer to have them test the driver and cross over to see if any further damage was done and the cause of it. Now if the say they believe the amp caused this from the faulty channel 4, i highly doubt emotiva will do anything about it or deny it.
