During my listing periods I get the same sound as when you turn your amp off except maybe at 50 percent of loudness. From what I can tell it does not affect the SQ. I purchased it for the Secret Sale. It has been happening for about a week or so now, maybe twice an hour. Have other lounge members experienced this? I have it plugged into a furman 15 PFi along with an xpa-5 and other accessories. I don’t have a dedicated circuit for the plug. Any info would be appreciated.

I would kindly suggest that you clarify what the amplifier is doing/how it sounds exactly. Are you saying it makes a thump sound or what?

Take it off the Furman and plug it directly into the wall outlet. What else do you have plugged into that device?
Emo has said on multiple occasions their amps do not need conditioning or circuit protection since that is built into the amp.

It's plugged into a CMX-2 along with an XPA-5. As suggested previously, I would unplug it from the Furman to see if it may be the cause or not.

Hello again,
If in fact the amp is making a random thump, there is a possibility of either a cold solder joint/and or a leaking capacitor or other component, neither of which will be affected by any form of power conditioning. If this is the case, you ought to phone Emotiva for support.

The noise is very similar to the sound that is made when turning the amp off, I would consider it more like a TANG then a THUD. Maybe it is as loud but I think it is at about 50 percent of the decibel level of when turning off the amp. But I am listening about 10 feet away and when I turn the amp off I am manually pressing the power button on the umc-1 so obviously my ear is next to it.

Emo has said on multiple occasions their amps do not need conditioning or circuit protection since that is built into the amp. I don't think Emo has weighed in on the need for 'conditioning' or not, as that can vary so much from house to house. But you're right about the surge protection being built into their amps (probably the fuses are the main protection I'd guess...?). But a good idea to plug it right into the wall and see if it still makes those sounds, though odd that it would 'just start' doing so! Probably a good idea to just pick up the phone and call them...

I'll give them a call tomorrow, it's not great that I am an international client when I have issues, hopefully plugging into the wall fixes it. Thanks for all the input, this forum is amazing.
