just opened my new xpa-5 and am pissed. have found that the bag holding the silica gel balls has busted. the small gel balls are every where and also in the amp. the box didn't have any writing saying this way up so i assume the box was turned upside down at some point. am not game to turn amp on till i can get all the gel balls out of the amp. am going to have to find someone to do this.

I wouldn't mess with it. Call Emo and get them to send you another XPA-5. I am fairly certain that if you do so in a calm, respectful tone that Emo will take care of you. I have had 3 occasions to use Emo's customer service and they *always* took care of me. Just don't rant and rave when you talk to them...

At the worst you probably may have to take off the cover which is pretty easy at least for my amp and dump out the balls.

Are the silica gel balls conductive? (I thought no) Taking the housing off is a few screws and a small vacuum will get them up.
This has happened to me before with various components (not emotiva) and I did not experience any issues after vacuuming them up.
But better safe than sorry and call to see if this is OK and that you are still covered under warranty after taking the housing off.
(I do recall this kind of post before here a few years back and I thought this was the advice given and all was OK, but I could be wrong)

I'm sure they will exchange it. However, wasn't the amp wrapped in plastic?

I'm sure they will exchange it. However, wasn't the amp wrapped in plastic? When I got my XDA-2, as I recall there were two packets of that stuff, one inside the plastic bag and one outside. So maybe the same happened with this guy and the packet inside of the bag broke? That amp must have had some really rough handling during transit.

I've never seen one of those packets burst open.... They're normally pretty sturdy. Normally there is a packet in the plastic - so keep the contents inside the plastic dry.

I believe silica gel does become conductive after it has absorbed sufficient moisture... but I'm not certain.

I would blow it out with about 40lbs of air pressure. Vacuuming won't get it all out in the tight places. Silica does absorb moisture, and moisture does conduct electricity. So be thorough. It's most likely not Emo's fault. At this time of year shippers throw boxes. They don't have time to gently place.

just opened my new xpa-5 and am pissed. Can't imagine what you'll do when life throws a real curve ball at you. Have a stroke? Don't worry - silica is not a conductor of electricity. Even if it gets damp - since water without contaminates won't either. Like what was suggested above - pull the cover off and either roll it around a few times or use some compressed air and blow off those balls.

First time I ever heard a fella complain about his balls! It's not "his" balls he's complaining about, he doesn't like other people's balls on "his" stuff =P

Ive had this happen on an xpa-1 that came in...I had to put the box on its side to move it around and it sounded like there was something smashed and broken inside...but it was just the small balls being crushed by the weight of the xpa-1. I don't know for sure if i ever got all of them out but its never been an issue and i live in a very humid climate.
Im pretty sure all my emo boxes have had up arrows displayed clearly tho

just opened my new xpa-5 and am pissed. I don't blame you for being upset; I would be too. However, I found out today that I have a medical condition that needs surgery ASAP. I am NOT pissed, I am just moving forward and doing when needs done. Life goes on and s&*t continues to happen! Call Emotiva customer service and I have no doubt that they will point you in the right direction.
