Interesting, I went from an SP-16 to the XSP-1, so far so good.

The SP 16 is a great piece of kit. Strangely enough im after the silence that so many talk of which seems at odds when one is doing all this to listen to music.
What were you looking for in the change?

I wanted better low volume precision (a known SP-16 problem), balanced connections (including balanced HT bypass), and then I might use the bass management should I want to play with a sub on my 2C system (the MC input is also a bonus). I was considering a much more expensive tube unit to get these features and thought I'd give the XSP a shot. So I was happy with the sound of the SP-16 but I wanted the volume, and balanced bypass to route my XDA-2 through. I am pleased with the XSP's performance so far, including the phono I previously enjoyed on the SP-16.
