I want to make use of my old 1st generation LCD TV as the monitor for the new HTPC desktop. TV has only component and rca(yellow) inputs, desktop has hdmi & DVI-I dual link & DP ports outputs. So I am looking for a cable for DVI-I dual link to component, saw this but it seems not very good based on review: www.meritline.com/6-dvi-i-to-3-rca-component-rgb-cable-for-satellite---p-35398.aspxI contacted monoprice but they don't have one except the hdmi component converter which is too expensive for me. Has anyone used & bought this cable with success? If so where did you buy it? Any other suggestion? Thanks.

DVI-I to component is actually VGA to component (DVI-I carries both the DVI-D signal and a VGA signal). Unfortunately, VGA and component do not share the same color space or timings. A passive solution does exist, but it is far from perfect as information needed for true component input is not found in VGA output and vice versa. Active adapters are better, but the less expensive solutions are similarly imperfect. Monoprice has the VGA to component adapter, but the price does not appear to be less than the HDMI to component adapter: www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011407&p_id=8668
