I just hooked up my UPA-7, a pair of Krell Resolution 2, a Krell Resolution Center and Paradigm Atoms as surrounds.
After watching maybe 30 movies with this setup, I heard maybe 5 instances where in the very loud scenes, there's a fast "zzzip", like a really quick scratching sound. And then everything returns to normal and going back to the same very loud scenes, I cannot replicate the same very quick scratching sound.
The preamp is a Denon 2808 and I put the volume usually no lounder than -20db or at the most -18db.
My question is does this problem demonstrate that the UPA-7 is clipping and do I need more power for the sound level I listen at? Thanks.

Clipping doesn't sound like a scratching noise - more of a popping noise. Your speakers are rated for 125w and they are 4ohm - should be a good match with the UPA-7. I've owned one - had it for 3 years and never got clipping from it at very high sound levels. It sounds like you might have a driver that isn't aligned properly. Been known to happen even with high quality speakers like yours.
