Finally purchased an XPA-5 to take advantage of the holiday sale before it expires...I will be running Polk RTi12 front L/R and Polk CSiA-6 for the center. The receiver is an Onkyo 5009 9.2. Running two subwoofers: Definitive Technology 15" 325 watts rms and another 10" Definitive Tech Sub at 250 watts rms. The remaining surrounds, surround rears and front high are utilizing ceiling Speaker Craft AIM series 5 in the front highs rated at 125wpc and Aim series 3 for the surrounds and rear surrounds rated at 100wpc.
I would like some guidance in selecting which of the ceiling speakers to hookup with the XPA-5 leaving the remaining ceiling speakers for the Onkyo. The two front high were Speaker crafts best ceiling speaker at the time and offer 125 watt max versus 100 watt max for the Speaker craft Series 3 which are being used for by surrounds and rear surrounds.
Does front high channels get more information than surround? If so perhaps I should utilize XPA-5 for front high. Also they have greater max wattage potential at 125 watts.
Or should I run the ceiling surrounds through the XPA-5 since they may receive more content information and leave the front high ceiling speakers run by the Onkyo?
Incidentally, one may ask why didn't I get the XPA-3 for your Polk RTi12's/CSiA6 for front sound stage. I thought about going that direction but thought about the additional powerful channels to enhance ceiling speakers sound with the XPA-5 and the reduced burden on the Onkyo may also result in a better sound/operating system running less speakers.
Also the holiday special favorded getting the XPA-5 over the XPA-3.
My last question: If I run my Onkyo in stero, direct or pure analog mode settings, thereby activating only two channels, will I have more reserves and would it be like an XPA -5 with only 2 speakers hooked up. Would there be an increase in available watts in two channel mode from 200 wpc to 275 wpc at 8 ohms?
Thanks for your help I'm really excited and feel the upgrade fever is getting real warm.
