Hi all! To those of you who have followed my recent trials & tribulations with my Comcast provided (read: "rented at $18/month!") defective Scientific Atlanta HD8300 HD DVR - I finally got around to switching it out with them for a new(ish) Cisco RNG200N HD DVR. The old SA 8300 needed to be re-booted every few days to force it to put out a good HD picture. It would develop extra horizontal lines (most noticeable around letter & number graphics), and generally put out a sharp enough picture, but re-booting the thing was a good temporary fix. The old SA 8300 DVR put out TONS of heat too (just like an Onkyo AVR! ). Anyway, this one is black (good!), and puts out far less heat that I can tell (good x 2!), but refuses to display the time...I miss the time display. Otherwise it works well, but time will tell, as the old SA unit "worked well" between re-bootings! Anyone have any practical experience with the Cisco DVR?

very easy to do, I am a comcast tech... go into menu. then cable box setup, then you will see I think it says current channel. press right. then it will display current time.
Any of the silver dvrs are junk. I will not even install them. Plus they have much smaller hard drives than any black dvr.

Thanks selkec! Had to press "menu" twice to get it to appear, but after that it was pretty self explanatory. So why doesn't the manual Comcast makes available on their website for this unit include instructions on how to do this? (I'd downloaded the manual, but there's nothing in it about setting up the display, etc. very odd). But in any case, its working...
I agree that the old SA 8300 units were junk. And they were *HOT* junk at that! This new(ish) one won't double as a space heater at least, which also tells me it consumes a lot less energy - true?
