Supposed to say 'under 2x the cost'
Helping build a sound system for a friend. Using mostly emo components, but I would like to know what other options are out there that you might had tried. I have not had a chance to listen to the XRT6's, but would just like to round out my research. Because of my QLS-1's I am biased towards speakers that have no need of separate subs. Anyone have some suggestions?

Twice the cost of what model? There's a whole range... If you like Emotiva, and want an impressive setup, the Stealth 8s are unlikely to leave you disappointed in any area.

You might want to check out the new Revel Performa 3's.

Emotiva's old ERT 8.3 towers are better than the XRT's from everything I've read. And you can find them reasonably cheap online if you can find them. For axiom, I wouldn't recommend anything except for their M80's. They have very good bass extension and can handle lots of power. They feel like they can portray good detail (pinpoint imaging) and certainly rock at HT. They can also portray some degree of depth but I feel that higher end speakers may best that. However they are very very finicky with placement and toe-in to get their best potential. Like an inch or a few degrees out toe in finicky. They also sound a little harsh at high volumes. The mids can feel a little congested when there's a lot going on. If that's because of my amplifier or the m80's I'm not sure as they are definitely underpowered and even axiom has recommended I take a step up from my upa-2 in amps to match the specs as there are 12 drivers in them and their impedance dips below 3 ohms.

Did you mean 8.3 towers? (you said 6.3) I have never heard them but there are a lot of very enthusiastic owners in the forum and the speakers have also gotten good pro reviews.

The Emo speakers are decent mid-fi speakers on par with Polk (except, perhaps, the LSi series), DefTech, and such. True hi-end speakers are a whole 'nother ballgame. If you'd like to get a taste of hi-end speakers without busting your bank account, look at Tekton, Gallo, KEF, Revel Performa, etc...

Thanks guys. This will give me lots to research today. I think that the ERT8.3's would have been perfect, and I may still track some down. Who knows maybe Emo's reference speakers will appear in the near future(please'o'please'o'please).

I love my Monitor Audio RX6's but everyone has different tastes which reflects very much on a speaker in system probably more then any other component in that system, you have to listen to a bunch, but lots of good recommended listens so far....good luck

Phase Technologies PC series speakers are a real steal and easily run with speakers costing 2x more. A couple of PC-3 speakers will set you back only $1,200 for the pair (street price). Step up to the PC-9 and forget using a sub except for movies or pop music.

Interesting other offerings too. I always enjoy seeing what other ID companies there are out there!
